Anyone know if there was a RPO code for the Carb air heater system which this 396 air cleaner belongs too?? My parts book shows that in 1966 and 1967 ( the years this air cleaner is correct for) you could get this carb air heater system.
1967 2dr Biscayne. L36, M40, G80, K05, F41. #'s. 1967 Impala convert. 283, glide. Parked in the garage since 74 and hasn't moved. Soon to be BB 4speed.
Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing.
I got this aircleaner with a bunch of 66 Impala parts. I thought it was the standard big block aircleaner for 65 66 67. The finish is very nice, no rust pitting, nice paint and no dents. When I looked at again, I noticed an air heat stove pipe opening on the bottom of the snorkel see pic 4, but it did not have a thermo-valve on the top of the snorkel as used in 68 and up cars. The snorkel has a lap joint running the length of the snorkel see pic 4. No lid, no heat pipe. I would guess it may be for 1967 or 1968 BB Canadian built Pontiac because of the shape of the snorkel and the heat pipe opening. If anyone has any knowledge of this aircleaner let me know and I will add it to the description. Grande parisienne beaumont SD, acadian, strato chief Poncho. WINNING BIDDER At the end of the auction, please wait for an invoice, do not pay before you recieve an invoice. I usually take a day or two. Ignore any ebay postage amounts, they are not accurate for shipping from Canada. I ship by postal service from BC Canada with the cost determined at the end of the auction when the item is boxed up and weighed.

Never. I looked at that ad for a long time trying to find a way to prove it's not an original piece but I just can't.
I've had over a dozen big block B bodies over the years and never seen one like it. Most of those cars I bought before the mid 80's and they still had original air cleaners on them too.

I've got two of those aircleaners. One came on my 66 car and is original. It has a single snorkel with no carb heat hole on the bottom.
The other I got from Grande Jim and is is identical in shape and markings except that it has a carb heat hole with a rubber grommet in the bottom of the snorkel.
I don't think 66's had that so maybe my other is from a 67?
Unfortunately the one with the hole is kind of rusted out and that sure showed up once I touched itwith the old sandblaster. It must have laid outside with water in the lid (Thats where its gone)
I'll post acouple of pictures in a minute or so.

Sorry my camera was gone! i have now retreived it and a card back from my wife. (Humph.) Here are pics of my original no carb heat one in black and the carb heat one in primer. They both fit a 396 with a quadrajet.
I looked through my list of RPO's for 66 but couldn't find it so maybe its a 67 item?

Interesting. Your's is not a twin to the one in the auction. Notice the snorkel opening on your's has a bit of a bevel around it and the ebay hole just looks punched.

I managed to get it out of there without wrecking it! Here it is without the rubber. I actually think it is the same as the ebay one. It must have been a 67 only item I would guess.

So I'm pretty sure its correct but for 66 or 67 or both. Like I said I looked through the RPO listing I have for 66 and can't find a reference for it. Maybe it was part of a police or taxi package?
Sometime when I can get of this fat, lazy butt I will check the build sheets on the microfiche for the B body Ponchos for 66-67 and see it they can help out.

Sounds good. i sure wish that thing on ebay had a top as that is what I'm kind of looking for. Think I can repair mine but it'll take careful welding. Why I want two big block aircleaners is the real question here. Maybe I'm a hoarder...
Well there ya go! Early production ones were without and later were with. I assume then that all 67 cars got the carb heat cleaners?
(Mine was originally a southern Alberta car and made in earlyNovember. i have only seen one other 396 66 car in person and never really paid attention )

Is your 396 car the one in the registry in November?
My 4 speed car was originally a 396 and it is built Jan 13th 66 I believe. I am certain it had the original air cleaner and it did not have a carb air heater.
Which air cleaner in the pics is your original base, the heated or not heated?
