Have you seen the new Caprice patrol car?

Sorry if this is a repost, but I just came across this and thought I'd share.  Don't recall seeing it here before, but I don't always pick up on everything that goes on anyways...confuse

Nice! Glad you agree, I found one for sale , Police 5.7 Hemi Charger 2010, 1000 miles on it, for sale in the US, $26 000!

The Michigan Highway Patrol tests were just done, and the Caprice was the fastest at 148 mph, and I believe the Tahoe was second or third at 139 mph. Not too shabby for a 2 1/2 ton brick. The Charger ran 146 mph.

I didn't know the 6L was in the Caprice. Dang.

But I think the Charger looks meaner.

I prefer the Charger. Good to see GM back in the game. Top speed too.

My son gets to drive these at his job. He does not like the Charger because it is too fast and it can get you in trouble in emergency situations, the car basically creeps up on you and before you know it you are pounding the brakes and overshooting your mark or turn. He rarely takes one on Patrol. He likes the Crown Vic alright but his favourite and car of choice for Patrol is the current Impala for it's balance of power, acceleration and maneuverability and handling. He's 6'3" too. Maybe he's just a die hard GM guy like Dad but that's his choice.
The police Impalas in current use do not use the 5.3 V8 so it is a V6. This year they also got 2010 Silverados which he also likes.

Ray, but don't some of the forces have 3.5L Chargers?

Yes, most Police Chargers are six cylinders.

So, I wonder if those unmarked chargers in my area (there's a black one, and then a grey one) are 6's or the hemi's. I stopped beside one, and wanted to ask him. But didn't want to get in troublebiggrin. You know, it still amazes me. that people don't know about unmarked police cars or absolutely clueless about them.

Pretty easy to tell, dual tailpipes Hemi, single tail pipe V6. The Police Impala V6's are dual though like the LTZ civilian model.

I don't see to many Impalas in my area and the very odd time blue unmarked vics. Just the white marked cruisers (chargers and Vics) and then a few unmarked Chargers, grey or black. I'll check out for the tailpipes next time. Always in the same area... near the Tim hortons, haha, just kidding.
The unmarked ones, I see the police rims, and the wires, lights up front. Then the officers in uniform in the cars.

I'd be interested in the new Caprice cop car. But I'm sure the V8 Charger is a beast. I had an 05 Magnum with the 5.7 Hemi. It was very fast, though the 5 speed auto seemed inadequate for the motor. Loved to drive it; may look for another 6.1 SRT8.

I think the OPP Tahoe's are pretty cool-that is as long as they aren't behind me with the lights on!

no civilian model for these as of yet, i understand
caprice fans in the states have found away around this, making
purchases through fleet delership programs, sounds like the copo
cars of old, using the back door to get a hot car

When I worked for a Municipality here in Ontario the leasing company we used could get police cars for the staff who qualified for leased autos. Back in '96 a fellow ordered a plum mist 9C1 Caprice, bucket seats in grey interior, cop wheels etc...LT-1. Real Bad A$$ car.

I think the RCMP and OPP should look at smaller engines and smaller cars for better mileage. Who cares if there's no room in the back seat.......it's not a limo ride to jail.
