I suck big time with a thread derailment problem! I almost posted this in the thread about the last Beaumonts because it's kind of similar but actually is about more than just that!
Anyway, I spoke to a man last night who has a 65 Canso SD that is 128 body numbers before mine and has a cowl tag date the day before mine. After we talked, for fun I looked at my sheet of cars that GM sent me with my documents way back when they gave the whole page.
My sheet has 5 cars within 15 body numbers of his car, some prior to his and some after his. I can't seem to get my head around why the body numbers bounce all over the place in relation to serial numbers. The most extreme one on my page has the body number being 169 behind the VIN. i.e. last 4 of the body is 3793, last 4 of the vin is 3962. I know they are not necessarily related but lots of them are almost a match. I know of at least 2 that are only 1 digit off the last 4 matching.
Two of the cars on my sheet have a body number 133 greater than the VIN.
Body number 8044, VIN 3911.
Body number 8046, VIN 3913.

the body # is from Fisher ,its their sequence or order #, i believe they built cars in body style and group though the paint booth in colour batches ,it has no bearing on the vin as when the cars go to the assembly line they are picked in a new sequence that has to do with difficulty of build or amount of options ,so the line goes faster.so it gets out of order from the fisher #

It just seems so odd that some are virtually identical numbers though. I know what you are saying is true Fred. I never thought of comparing body numbers vs. paint codes. Have you ever tried that?
