Guys finally got the motor just about to the turn the key time, probably Friday we should fire it up, I changed over to an alternator instead of the generator, how can I hook up the wires from the alternator to make it charge, Thanks Brent, Pics will be coming of the changeover.
it will depend if the alternator is internally regulated or externally regulated. Are you able to be more specific, or post a photo of the electrical connections on the alternator?
Here's a very simplified veiw of a GM internally regulated system.
#1 position is igintion on, powering the alternator field from the battery. #2 senses sytem load from the harness main power splice. In a pinch you probably could go right to the battery positive to get up and charging. "Battery' powers the system from a central powerpoint.

I converted my 62 to this alternator but i can't remember how I hooked it up and I don't have the car anymore. However I do remember that I used the existing generator wires.
Looking at a 61 wiring diagram, with an internal regulated alt, this should work.
Be ready to disconnect the battery quickly when she starts if you see trouble!
Connect the old (Heavy charging) wire previously from generator position "A" to the new alternator "Bat" position.
Connect the brown "ignition on" powered wire previously from generator position "A" to the new alternator "1" (Field power) position.
Connect the old wire previously from generator "F" to the new alternator "2" (load sense) position.
Disconnect the old voltage regulator plug, shunt together position "B" (horn relay, body power, battery feed) to plug position "A" (now, new alt "Bat") and "F" (now, new alt position "2").
Ultimately a buss strip should be used to tie the 5 wires together safely.
Cheers, Mark

Canadian Tire and most parts stores have a free test for alts and starters. At least they used to.
