1968 Beaumont Wagon Resto Project

And so we finally begin Fannie's restoration. Although I suppose it actually started when we got her home.
The search for a good body guy to reassure us that we hadn't gotten in to deep and who was not only capable but
excited and willing to take on the project. Next the search for parts began. With the biggest challenge being
the 1/4 panels. I was only able to find one donor wagon and it was in Arizona, to far away and the driver's 1/4
panel was heavily damaged. So El camino panels will be used, they will have to be cut to fit. Now that we are
starting the disassemble a parts list will begin, adding parts that we hadn't realized that we needed.

The first item on hubby's list was to get her started. Since we hadn't really been able to get her running
since we got her home, she turned over a few times but wouldn't idle. So he changed the wiring harness(from the
donor car), put in the brand new battery, some fresh gas down the carb and away she went...EEEEE...that was easy!
However we discovered that the fuel pump isn't working...add to the list(attl).

While he's under the hood so to speak, I'm inside removing alot of screws(ouch hands are sore) in the trim. Just about everything
inside is now out and has been placed into her room in the house. I'll be cleaning and appling upholstery dye
to freshen up the faded and over spray areas. She had been painted (not very carefully) before hence the fire
engine red. The upholstery will stay the original color. More to follow...

Do you plan to keep the 6 or use the 327 from the parts car?

My plan is to keep the 230 I6 in her...we were mislead about the engine in the donor car! It wasn't a 327 it was a 307...hubby is hoping to have his own project someday...

The 230 and 250 sixes are great motors; I had one in a 72 Ventura. Good luck with the project.

Too bad about those surprises. Is the parts car good in those areas?

The parts car is a bit better but not enough that we'd bother with. Our faith is in the body guy...but that's a ways off yet. Hope he knows what he's in for biggrin No worries I believe he has breathed life into much worse aww

Well I had to work but Wayne was busy. The only thing left inside the car is the dash and it won't be coming out. smile He managed to get the headliner out in on piece. A few of the trim pieces that I wasn't able to muscle out he got them. All the glass except the windsheild are out and stored safely in the rafters. All the doors and the tailgate are off. The wheels are off and she's setting on axel stands. So here's a few more pictures. biggrin

Question...do El Camino's store there spare tire in the fender like Fannie does and do you think this part would fit in Fannie?

smile Yeah, it worked really well. I just sprayed it on, let it set a few minutes and then wiped it off. On the worst areas I used a scrub brush, really glad the seats are vinyl and not fabric. I used Spary Nine to clean and disinfect, warm water(changing it often) to remove the Spray Nine. Then Mothers Protectant to help to restore the vinyl. So far so good. There will some places that will need restaining to cover faded or over spray(from when she was painted red) areas.

Great work. I use Spray nine quite a bit too. If you have fabric such as the headliner that is dirty, Brakekleen does wonders.

Thanks

The headliner is vinyl also, it brittle. Hubby managed to get it out Ok. I have to be really careful claening it. Any suggestions on something that might soften it up?confuse
