1960 Chev Brookwood 6 pass wagon. 283 2bbl V8 , 3 spd std , power steering , power brakes , windshield washers. Serial tag tells me it is a 235 6 cyl car ( 1135 ), so someone changed it to the V8 sometime long ago. Heads are not drilled so it can be a 283 or 327, I didn't verify , missing starter and carb, coil and fuel pump. But the starter bolts into the bell housing not up to the block so this is period correct. I last turned it over about 5 years ago but today I couldn't turn it over. The PS and PB are original . Original paint still on car. Rear seat has seat covers on so probably still good upholstery underneath. Rusted floors and rockers. Spare tire well is real good. I couldn't open the end gate as the mech is not working, window is partially down so can't open the gate, the chrome crank handle is not broken. These are a really sharp car with a set of mags on it. Wagons are very hard to find and this one is basically untouched from new, but requires total restoration and rust repair. I paid more for it long ago but it is another project that I won't get to so my loss your gain.I live along the highway, no problem to load on your car trailer....306-549-4040.
Bought it. Should be in the stable in Vernon early next week.
Nice!!! Have a friend here who has a 60 Nomad with a factory 348/auto. He usually has lots of 59-60 chev parts. Let me know if you need anything and I'll send you his Email.

Hey thanks! I probably won't dig into it until the 59 Catalina wagon's done, maybe a few months, but I'm sure the car will need plenty. I found a private hauler for Saskatchewan Insurance Corp who goes a couple times a week out of the Okanagan-usually has extra deck space, so its 850 loaded to my door. My sons 14 who I'm doing this one with-looking forward to it!

Hey, can anyone help me with the engine decode on this rig? Apparently the original engine was a six and has been switched to a small block at some point in its life. Today we hooked up the engine to the tractor and yanked it-I'm now wondering what it is?? The casting number on the block reads 3789828 which I'm guessing is period correct, but I cant find this number on any site. 283/327?? Any help is appreciated, and yes, were having a ton of fun with it, rust and all!!

Are you sure there isn't another number on the pad by the head ( front ).
Im peeling more grease off tomorrow-trry to find something. I know Im not sittting on anything special, Id just like to find out if its a 283 or not, and roughly what vintage of motor it is.

My guess is it's a 283 ,I can find numbers close to it but not your number. I think there might be another number on the pad with letters as well.
I'm sure it's a truck engine, built between 61-67. The heads were used on both 283/327.

Okay, my wifes probably going to notice abit of grease on her macbook here, but I ve got a few codes this morning- block casting-3789828 front of block- 9V203357 cyl. head-3814480 (also the letter "m" in another area)
The engine code in the door jamb reads 473794. I was told the engine was not stock. Is has the breather tube on the back by the distributor, with no vents in the valve covers, so I'm pretty sure this is an early block. Thanks for any help.

yeah, for sure. I guess when I strip the block down I'll be able to find out the size. Its just weird-the body tags say its a 6 cyl. yet it has an early v8 block in it-almost like the original swapped it out in the first couple years. I tried to find him but he's been dead for 12 years.
I read in different blogs that mortec info was no longer available ,which I found out when I Googled them. I did find these locations buried in a blog and they seem to work fine.
