Changing rear springs on a 67 Bigcar. Question.


Done fronts a few times, rears once on the project chassis. They were no trouble.

Trying to put the stock springs back in (don't ask), and they're quite tall and a bugger to get up on and lined up with the cup hole. They will not stay up in position on the arm.

One question;

Do you disconnect the driveshaft? 

Seems doing so might allow the suspension to drop further. Right now at the full down position, I can see the driveshaft yoke is pushed fully into the trans tailshaft.

If I can get the arms down another 2-3" (lots of flexline left) I could slip the cup into the pigtail and fish the hole with the bolt (it's quite long) without prying  and holding the spring up on the lower arm. Once the bolts are just in I could compress the suspension till the arms come up to near horizontal. Then tighten the cups.

Any tricks. I could always just metal band them at work this weekend.

for the 5 minutes it'll take to disconnect the driveshaft at the rear yoke, give it a try.

What I did was disconnect the panhard, shocks and driveshaft and you will not have any problems in fact I had to put a jack under the rearend to keep it from going down to far
