Today I finally had my car out for a drive. I was getting really tired of the wheel hop and not wanting to do anything other than stock to the suspension parts I decided to take out the air shocks which I needed for clearance on the rear wheels. I installed new front springs on the car because of the sag and new shocks on all four corners.

Once I lowered the back of the car I couldn't run the old wheels so I decided to go back to the stock steel wheels with hubcaps and redline tires. I picked up mint set of redline radials for a good price so they will do until I get a set of belted redlines. Maybe next year I will make the switch back.

So with all the new parts on the car it was time for a tank of new fuel so a 20 minute road run was in order. Man I missed driving my car!

Here are a couple of pictures without the hubcaps. I'll put them on once I have the alignment done. The car sits lower on the rear than it did but still a little higher than the front. And no more wheel hop!!!

Here is a picture of the hubcap centers that I restored last weekend. Now I just have to finish the hubcaps.

Looks good Brad. A set of doggie dishes would look good in the meantime.

This is the look but it is also how my car was built. Matador Red, redlines and hubcaps.

That wasn't my car. It could have been Kevin's.

The brochure car is about as perfect a visaul as possible for the last year of the Canadian Beaumont, right down to the Snowbird Pilot. Perhaps you car was the brochure car Brad. I think you car will look fantastic returned to it's original state, it looks good the way it sits now too.

I believe the car in the brochure is an artist rendering or they used a mocked up 68. If you look at the rear bumper it is on an angle not straight. This car must have been a radio delete and exhaust delete car too. No antenna and no exhaust.

My car was built in October so it would have been a little late for the picture to make it into the brochure. Other than those differences it is the same as my car.

  Thanks Ray

My intention has always been to put the car back to stock. Hopefully I get it all done this year.

You are going the right way with that ultra rare car. I think your car is outa sight! thumbsup.gif

It is funny that GM only offered the 1969 SD on the base series. I figure that is probably due to GM Canada openly promoting and selling the GTO in Canada starting in 1969. Prior to 1972 the GTO was based on the upscale Lemans trim. Food for thought...

Thanks for the compliments guys.

One hubcap cleaned up and the center installed. I am going to try and find some caps in better condition. These ones will do for now but they are not nice enough to be permanent. Here is a before and after picture of one of the caps.

That hubcap looks like a new one! Nice work Brad. You must be incredibly fussy if that isn't quite nice enough for your car....

It took about 14 hours to do these so I am not really interested in doing another set. My centers were in really good condition to start with other than the paint. I stripped all the old paint off the back then repainted them. It wasn't really difficult just time consuming.

What did you use to strip them and what paint colors and brand did you use to repaint them? Cheers Whitey
