i set my self some dead lines and i want my GP on the road by next spring, im doing a cheap body job for now and i bought a good running and very strong 427 BBC which is going in it, not sure about the trans tho? i would like to find a 4 or a 5 speed.
anyways tomarow im going to get ready to pull my motor out of the truck. the owner of the truck is making a trailer out of it and is physically handicapped so he cant do much so i worked out a deal with him, i pull the cab off of this truck and the motor is mine.
i will post some pics tomarow of the job i have ahead of me and of how the GP' sits at the moment
Sounds like a great deal Justin! What year/kind of truck are you taking the engine out of? Good luck!
I taking the day off tomorrow (it was hot working outside today, luckily we have a breeze here up on the north shore). I'm going to a small car show in Kensington tomorrow.

anyways the truck is a late 70's/early 80's gmc top kick, yes i know it is a talldeck motor but it runs too good for me to not take up on the deal. the owner is making a trailer out of the truck frame because he is a very small farmer and cant afford to put the truck on the road so he told me that if i took the time to pull the motor it is mine
anyways i need a wiper motor and big block chev motor mounts (the whole thing, even the part that bolts to the motor
do you have a wiper motor in the old parts car you have? if you do message me
going to drive it for a year or so then pull it apart for a resto..
Good idea Justin! At least you have a lot of room to swing that 427 in there!

Chances are if it's an original Monza trans it's a Saginaw but that is fine. It's just not as strong as a Munce but if you drive it a bit on the easy side it will live.

I think you might be disappointed in the engine as far as performance unless you make some changes. Not sure what you expect ,if you plan on hauling gravel your on the right track. You might want to do some measuring to make sure it will fit ,the brake booster might be in the way because of the taller deck height. Are you planning on using the stock exhaust manifolds or headers ,again check for clearance. If you change the distributor you will need to build or buy one with a slip collar to make it fit. There are lots of 454's around ,put your steel 427 crank in one and build an engine that you know will fit and the parts are plentiful. I seen a fella put a stock tall deck in his 62 Chevy truck he figured it would go like stink....wrong it was like a boat anchor. Anyway good luck with your project ,I just wanted to tell you about my experience with the 427 TD. P.S. That steel 427 crank and 4 bolt caps are worth $1000.00 alone ,good find.
picking up my tranny this weekend...did i mention "" ?
anyways its not the transmission that i was talking about earlier, this transmission is out of a 1980s camaro, i chose this because it has a hydro. clutch and thats what the car is setup for, its also the identical tranny that came out of the car recently so i wont have to move the tranny cross member. oh by the way, i bought a set of brand new BBC motor mounts 1 day before i found the original motor mounts, brake peddle(which is now put away if i ever want to put the car back to an auto), and along with all this other stuff i found the pieces that were removed from the center console so a manual trany could be used.
p.s.... some pics will be up soon as im staring to do some body work, maybe even some pics of the new to me truck i recently grabed

Just reading 1st part of this thread & thought [hurts doing that] any chance this engine could be a 366 & not a 427??? Both are tall decks & the 366 was quite common in the top kicks & brigadiers [ Chev & GMC] Bags of torque & not so on the rev. dept.

it is a 427, the original owner told me he had the opturnity to buy the same truck with a 366 but he turned it down, the 427 should be good for 4500-5000rpm but no more, i had it up to 4600 in the truck when i took it for a drive.
oh and i was reading on another forum that the 366 can be bored out to a 396...is this true i wonder?

if your going to do a full resto later on... Don't worry about what size the engine is your going to get another engine right? i know i am. going to rebuild the 283 to look stock and sound stock but have a little more kick to her! but Again your making Great progress and i can't wait to see the next step!
had the bbc running not long ago and it sounds great now the new plugs/wires/cap/rotor and carb rebuild kit helped it alot, before the motor was running to rich
