19,000 Stay or Go

I was saving the 19000 for something special (to me)

I was feeling sad, that I was still on the site, without a Pontiac or a Beaumont or Acadian...

When I had the 2010 Mustang last year and the 2000 & 2010 Camaros..  I joined the applicable web sites, but found they were not as "user friendly" and there were so many members (mainly U.S.) that there was not, the same personal contact, as here..

It is evident to me, that the members here, are first and formost car crazy guys, and then, Poncho guys    So I must remain here for the duration...

In the meantime I bought and sold a Cdn Poncho this year  The 95 Firebird was/is a fine original paint mint car..I wanted a little more room..     My wife encouraged me, to look at other models, that have been favorites of mine..

I finally found a WHITE 2 DOOR  that seemed like a fit for me..  I am still spoiled by creature comforts, and yet still wanted a older model......

I came across a 23 year old car, that has GM History and is a well know model in GM circles...   The car was bought new in 1988, to replace a 86 model, that was written off...  The owner had a neighbor, who coveted the car, and wanted first dibs on it..   The neighbor bought it, and later sold to a cousin and his son..

The Father and son have owned this car and stored it in heated garage since 1993!!  They drove it occasionally with a borrowed dealer tag..  Last licenced in 2000..  I bought car from father two weeks ago, and had it to Zurich car show last Sat..   As I drove it home, I was wondering if I was doing the right thing lol   but after I jacked it up, and looked underneath, I was hooked   The car is a Survivor!   I had 67BBSD 's friend Paul appraise it this week, and found the 93 and 99 safety's in the console...  I was shocked!  Father has it certified in 1993 at  26,074 km and transfered to son in 1999 and certified at 27,264km   Last week I had it certified at 27,988 !!  724km in last 12 years 1914 km in all 18 years   I love it

Sorry its a Chevrolet

You  can't leave, who  would pass on big block canadian pontiac  stories to  the younger guys. Also great looking SS, I ordered one new in 84 ,was a great car and sold it three years ago.

Would be interested in knowing about the'84. The car was released partway through 83 so that the Chevy's could be competitive on the High Banks. It worked too since Darryl Waltrips white & Red Junior Johnson #11 is iconic.

I have heard that 84's were bare bones cars when compared to the later 86-88 models, is it true buckets were not available and car only came white or gunmetal blue ?

According to "my story" my 88 Monte was the last rwd car produced  wink

Thank you for all the Positive Monte Carlo SS  comments

  gives me a boost   lol

Great find! I noticed the Cullen Chevrolet dealer tag - are you in the Niagara area?  My first car was a 1985 Monte Carlo SS that I still have today (I added a functional shaker hood and 350/WCT5 5-speed in it):

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/291978/1985-chevrolet-monte-carlo

...also had this blue '84 SS as a daily driver for a few years:

...had an '87 parts car too:

...but it ended up like this LOL:

Wish mine was as clean as yours! Check out www.montecarloss.com - it's a great/friendly site focused on the 4th gen SS.

68sd - all 1988 models were actually built in 1987, just titled differently. Last SS to roll off the line was some time in December '87.  Here's production figures by year:

http://www.montecarloss.com/SS_FAQ_2.html#1

73SC - 1983 was the first year. G80 wasn't available and all had two-tone blue/white bench seat interiors with "SS" embroidered headrests and a diamond pattern material. Only exterior colours available were white and blue. G80 was offered in '84, though not many have it (only about a 1/3 of all 4th gen SS's do). Buckets/console were now an option, but came in solid blue only. Some '84s got the same two tone interior left over from '83. They dropped the blue in '85 - added black, burgundy and silver and changed the striping - interior options were now grey or burgundy with a different striped pattern in the material. Interior trim was a one year only offering. In '86 they upgraded to the aluminum wheels and the interior material/trim changed to velour/gloss black respectively and the upper door panels/inserts were now velour rather than vinyl. Cubby style ashtray (breadbox) at the front of the console was also replaced with a flat tray. Colour offerings and striping were the same as '85. '86 was also the first year for the aerocoupe, of which only 200 were made. '87/88 are virtually identical (with the exception of wiper motor wiring belive it or not) and the striping changed again. Gold stripes and saddle (tan) were offered. The spoiler changed mid year '87 to a laydown style, the only exception being this style was also used on ALL '86/87 aerocoupes.

Lots of other minor details, but that basically covers it - I've owned my car for over 14 years and pretty well know them inside and out! :D

Very nice!!    I also had a white 85 in 86  and of course love your ride... If its as nice as the GTO (Wow)

I am impressed with all the Montes you guys have hadwink

My car says "Ray Cullen" on the trunk..

The GM Historical print out shows "Elliott Bros" in Woodstock as selling dealer...

I asked seller, about the cars History, and he said the original owner, had a 86 SS that was written off..  He had 'trouble" finding a white replacement..

The MTO "print out" shows car going from Elliott Bros.(Woodstock On) to Bennett Auto Sales (London) to Hyndai South (London)  all on July 20-28th and original owner July 29th!

I can only presume car was a dealer trade from Ray Cullen to  Elliott bros.???

WOW    I didn't think or know of that ...   Is any Cullens left in business?

Whats the story on Elliott Bros?

I know we have some  Elliott Bros emblems in registry

Elliot Brothers was not in any way related to Ray Cullen Chev Olds. Bennett Holdings may have had a relationship with Cullens and perhaps used them as the delivering dealer. Both were/are based in London.

I don't suppose Ray Cullens would keep records from 1988?   especially about dealer trade?

Car was built Dec 87  and sold July 20th  so it was sitting somewhere..
