It's a pretty rusty car and looks like it has served well. Addisons was a high end Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac dealer on Bay Street in Toronto with plenty of Bay Street bankers and lawyers as customers. Back in the day cars were sold over the phone. In fact my 92 Bonneville was ordered there and pretty much bought it and a 96 Sunfire over the phone too. This wagon looks to be right on the target market of that dealership.
A former co worker used to work at Addisons as a tech in the 60's. He had many good stories. He said the company would have large luncheons for their wealthy customers and the techs got to eat all the leftovers.
The showroom was finished in oak wainscoating and the area you drove into from the street was ceramic titled black and white with oak trim on te walls. It was an old school downtown dealership laid out on three floors. Once you got out of your car a jockey took it up a ramp and it was gone into the srevice area. It was at Bay and College which is a pretty busy spot, Queens Park just to the West with U of T and then Police Headquarters across te street, Maple Leaf Gardens not that far east on College/Carlton. All the big banks were down Bay towards King St. but first you had to go past City Hall and Osgoode Hall so you can see that it had a number of high income earners to draw upon.
You can see the used car lot which was across the street. They also parked cars on te roof and used the roof. Another thing was the parts department. For some reason they were really good and would get parts from all over and often had them in stock. Hillar and I got a lot of parts there for our old cars right up until they ceased business. I would order them them walk up on my lunch hour from Osgoode Hall which was 100 Queen Street West, to pick them up. Hillar was in the TD Centre at 100 King Street West which was a bit further down but an easy lunch time walk as well. Usually went into the dealership and shot the breeze with whomever was there, sat in a few Caddy's or nicely turned out Pontiacs and Buicks.
This is another one of those cars that it would be worth running the VIN on with Vintage. To my way of thinking there are probably a lot more big block Grande Parisienne wagons than we might think. This one is a good example, High end car from high end dealer with high cube mill.
