Torque thrust questions

Hi guys,

I want to buy some Torque Thrust TTO style rims for my car.

American racing only offers basic offset's.

I'm looking for custom offsets such 15 x5 w/4" backspace & 15 x7" with 4 7/8" backspace. I'm looking for another supplier. I've been looking everywhere and the only one I can find is Team 3 wheel. Killer looking and they'll do what I'm looking for but they want $320/ US for the front each & $395/US for the rear each. If I have to go this way I will, but I was hoping to not spend that kind of money. Anyone got any other idea's?

Thanks

Tony

Check out Coy's wheels..Not sure about off sets but they have similar ones to TT's.

Those aren't common back spacings - which I'm sure your already know.

If you want exactly 4-7/8" BS for the 15x7 inch rears (that's +22 mm offset by my calculations)
and
15x5 fronts with 4 inch BS (+25 mm offset)

I suspect you'll have to custom order. I don't know of anyone who makes those as standard sizes but other than a few quick searches today, I've never looked for them either.

If I recall correctly, you can get custom sizes from American Racing or others, but I suspect they'll come in at the $300+ per corner.

Since you're looking for more positive offset (larger backspacing) than the typical, it rules out spacers.

FWIW, here's the formula to converting from back spacing to offset:

Offset - Back Spacing Formula.jpg

Remember that the wheel width quoted (e.g. 15 x 7) is the width of the tire bead inside the lip.  The outside wheel width is approximately one inch wider.  Back spacing is measured from the outside lip.

Try the selection from Vintage Wheel Works either V40 or V45, they may have what you need and they look similar to the Torque Thrust

Good stuff here.
I understand that a 15 x 7 with 4.5" backspace is a perfect fit for the rear and a 15 x 6 with 3.5 is perfect for the front of a factory setup.
I can't even locate these sizes but I never thought of calling American racing if they would make me custom ones. I will also check out Vintage wheel works. So I posted these specs today in case these sizes & spacings which should be more common are out there.

American Racing has Torque Thrust 2's
15 x 6 with 3.25" BS
http://www.wheelsforless.com/SearchResult.aspx?Keywords=15x6+2.1&All=True

and 15 x 7 with 4.76" BS:
http://www.wheelsforless.com/SearchResult.aspx?Keywords=15x7+2.1&All=True

They're even on sale!

If you like the Torque Thrust D's, they have
15 x 6 with 3-5/8 BS
http://www.wheelsforless.com/SearchResult.aspx?Keywords=VN10556

unfortunately, the 15 x 7's are standard with 3.75" BS, which s a long way from the 4.5" you're looking for.

Weld Prostars are a 5 spoke wheel and apparently they come in 15 x 7 with 4.5" BS (Weld 96-57278 Prostar 15x7 5x4.75 4.5 BS)
and they have the 15 x 6 with 3.5" BS - see part # 96-56276
http://weldracing.com/aitdownloadablefiles/download/aitfile/aitfile_id/175/
Looks like list price is about $240 each.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the ProStar style unless they're going on a race car. But if you like the look, that's all that counts!

I just discovered that you can get custom ordered Cragar 5 spokes from Summit racing for about $160 for a 15 x 6 inch.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRR-61C563432/

It looks like you can custom order 6 inch width or 14 inch width - they don't list the 7 inch width. Might be worth a call though...

So thanks to everyone for all the help on this.
I was actually able to contact American Racing through their main distributor Wheel Pro's.
I got their phone # by calling in to Summit Racing.
Their number is 1-216-749-4200

American Racing will actually make the Torque Thrust 2.1 rim in different offsets that aren't posted.
The part number can be submitted to Summit and they will sell them to you.

The one's I came up with are as follows:

#VN405566135
15 x 6
4 3/4
3.5 backspace
$224.50 US dollars each

#VN405576145
15 x 7
4 3/4
4.5 backspace
No nailed down price / I would suspect close to the 15 x 6.

I thought this info might help someone as it took me alot to get to this level.

Now I'm doing some thinking closely if the Torque Thrust 2.1 is really what I want. As ideally I wanted the Torque Thrust TTO with the original spoke. They will not cusotmize that rim. Also starting to question if I should consider 16's or 17's. I'm going to start a complete new thread on that topic.

Sure I'd consider them.

I'd need the backspace first and how much.

Let me know

Tony
