I am not sure what you mean by "vents". It is a small block Chevy but different dipsticks were used depending on the vintage of the engine.

Does it have the dipstick tube in it now or no tube and no dipstick?

Do you know the year of the block or a casting number?

I think where Brad is headed is the same way I'm thinking.  The engine has been changed to a later model.  Looks like a 70's 305 or 350 engine to me.

Definetly had a transplant with the orginal water pump etc. put back on. Can see dip stick tube, sticking out by M/cyl. but you still need casting # off back left side[dr. side] & the stamped # under alternator area [pad on block just in front of Right [pass. side ] cyl. head. Does the dip stick tube come from side of oil pan, or out of block above the pan???

i was told bi my machanic that its a 327 engine and as far as he knows its the orginal....as for the oil i dont see anywhere on the engine/block where the oil filter is too theres a bolt above it im thinking it might be there but i would have to get a dipstick to put there ....and as for the vents i meant the vent line hoses that goes from the breather and carb and ect from on top of the engine .......so did anyone know where i can get a manual for this engine would really like to know more about it and know exactly where the vent line hoses goes too ect.... thanks for the comments

not getting any manual till you figure out what engine is in it. it does not look like a 327 to me, definitely a newer block. find the numbers that dualquadpete asked for and then we can go from there.

just read my post, i sound a little harsh. find those numbers. then we can find out what book you need

Steve's right here, thats not the org. block air cleaner, rocker covers etc is "wrong" If you look under the left [drivers side] exh. manifold towards the rear inbetween the last 2 cyls. # 5 & 7 there should be a spot for the dipstick tube, that presses into block, or if its "broken off they may have "plugged it off??? some later small blocks had the tube on the right side or coming out the side of pan. Check both sides, & I'm "willing" too bet $$$ Thats NOT the correct engine in there,no big deal unless your doing a "full" resto!!!!!! Would also like to see the intake & carb w/air clearner off if you can?????

Like Carl shows  thats a 305  Q jet intake. To be sure of what block you have you will need to look on the drivers side back of the block for the block casting number. Stephenzone showed a pic of were to look.  That intake could have been put on any small block .
