C50 Rear Defrost - cars has it, GM docs do not (1969)

I was going through the GM Vintage Vehicle info for my 1969 Laurentian.  My car's a little odd for a Laurentian, as it has 25+ listed options (nothing exciting, but a lot of little weird things).

I noted that C50 (Rear Defrost) isn't listed but the car has had it since new.

It certainly wasn't standard on the Laurentian, was it?

- Dave

PS: I also had rear defrost on my '69 2+2 which was weird, because it was in the cloth "boot" area behind the seat.

It was likely dealer installed when the Pre Delivery Inspection was done. I am sure that is the same as my "new" 66 Grande Parisienne. The rear defoggers are listed in the GM Dealer Installed Accessories Catalogue for many many years. Most likely a kit, which is identical to the factory install if I am correct.

As common as it is on 60's Canadian Pontiacs, there are certainly plenty without it too.

I am told it was pretty cool on the neck if you were a rear seat passenger and it was on high!

My 70 2+2 convertible also has rear defrost.  I posted a photo a couple years ago.

I recall my Dad taking our 70 Pontiac in for the instal of the rear blower a few weeks after taking delivery. Should have been standard in a Canadian car

It would be interesting to know what year the heated gride became available as opposed to the blower. My '73 has the blower and the first car I recall owning with the heater grid was a 1975 Monza.

The 69 Grand Prix I am parting out has the heated grid in the rear window.A couple of years ago I sold a complete GM kit for the rear window defroster and there were a lot of US bidders on the item and it sold well over$100.

I never would have guessed that Al, perhaps the grid was a luxury car item or a very expensive option.

I saw a blower unit kit at a swap meet for station wagons marked GM B body 66-70.

I'm not expert on the Grand Prix, but they seemed to be about a year ahead in terms of feature. Heated rear window (defrost) and in-glass antenna are two examples.

I'd seen many 70 Catalina's with he heated grid.  They use a different dash rocker switch, it says Defog, and has a green light on it to show that it's on.

Ya know, I thought so! I got a grid window years ago from a 2 door for my '70... And I knew it was a green light... Now question is, where did I put it??
