A faint sniff of the holy grail of Pontiacs!

Hey guys I had the occasion to go into my local liquor store lately ( a very rare occasion i can assure you) and happened to strike up a conversation with the owner as he was ringing me up.  He asked me how it was going etc and I told him I was working on an old car at the moment.  He asked me what kind and I said 66 Grande Parisenne , not expecting him to know what I was talking about.

He surprised me though by saying his dad had one, a pretty hot car as he remembered. Once we chatted for a while it seemed like he had a pretty good memory of it and that his dad had bought as a special order  car at Jenner Motors in Edmonton.  He said it had a 400 cubic  inch engine so I listed the options and he said it was for sure the 425 horse and that he was told it was one of 2 in Canada.  (He also mentioned that the dealer had tried to buy it back from his father.)

It was gold coloured and  he said it was loaded with options too as he used to drive it when he could and remembered it well.  He said that his dad was trying to outdo a friend of his who had a Buick Wildcat and that he had purposely gone out to get hottest car he could get.

He cant quite remember whatever happened to it but I asked him to try real hard.  I also asked him if he could find some pictures of it and he said he would next time he visited his mother.

So I guess I have to do two things here:

Keep going back to the liquor store to pester him (quite a hardship)

Keep you guys up to date. (easy)

Kind of exciting to get a sniff of one of those legendary beasts even from a distance!

He seemed to be quite sure of what it was.  The only thing that didn't add up was that he recalled it was an automatic which would have eliminated the 425 horse (L72) engine if I remember the options for 66 correctly.

It still could be a 1 of 2  depending on how it was optioned

A 427-390 was no slouch

Call him at home   Stop going to the liquor store  LOl

I CAN'T SAY FOR SURE, BUT I BELIEVE 4SPD. WAS AVALIBLE WITH THE L-72. UNLESS CP OPTIONS WERE DIFFERENT THAN THE CHEVS.

I'll stick my neck out and say it would HAVE to be a manual trans. Even the Vette with L72 had to be a stick.

And wow, would that ever be a rare one...

Oh, and no a/c either with a stick or L72 option.
