61Pontiac hood adjustment

I removed hood to install new engine, just removed the 4 bolts. Now the hood is back on but rear of hood is raised about an inch. Tried adjusting the hinges but still the same. Do I need new springs or hinges or both. Would the springs and hinges be the same as 61 chevys.

If you want to bring the back of the hood down, first make sure the hinges are all the way down on the firewall. If so, then use a "shim" or washer between the front hood hinge bolt and hood -in other words between the hood and the hinge at the front bolt location. Try just one at a time and you will be surprised how much it brings the BACK of the hood down level with the cowl vent. Try it it will work. No 61 Chevy hinges are different than Pontiac.

I measured my 61 before I took it of and it didn,t fit right either, u got 2 bolts on the firewall and one bolt on the hinge toward the front of the hinge that bolts to the inner fender. Ist make sure the hood is down a all the at the firewall and tighten. Now the bolt the tightens the front of the hinge to the fender, adjust hood up or down as u wish and tighten. This single bolt adjustment does a lot more adjusting than the ones at the firewall, good luck

I tried the shims that mr409 suggested and there isn't change, still about 1" up. I'll try your way tomorrow Brent.

Brent I had to go out to clean wet snow off satilite dish and had to walk past car. Well I tried your way and it is very close .Right side is perfect and drivers side is still up about a 1/2". I can push down with hands but won't stay. I'll be able to sleep to night now and go at it tomorrow.
