This would have been a cool car!

I got this email last night:

"I had a very unusual 1969 Strato Chief 427 4 speed, and if anyone would ever like details please contact me."

Of course I wanted details! I also asked him if he had the VIN. Here's his reply:

"I dont have the vin#, the car was almost new when I owned it. 2 door ht, white with a medium blue interior, manual steering, power disc brakes, radio delete, small hubcaps, sold new in Edmonton. The car ran a 13.0 et in completely stock trim. I sold the car and was told it was hit hard and likely written off in about 1975-6. The car was originally ordered to tow an airstream trailer, the buyer didnt like it and I bought with very few miles on it."

I don't think we have any 1969 427 4 speed Strato Chief production numbers, do we? I wonder if there are any survivors..

I love hearing about cars like this!

Does Alberta allow people to get a list of cars they previously owned? We can do that here in Ontario. That might be one way to get a VIN. He sent this email this morning:

"I will look for a possible picture. It was a bench cloth seat and the car also has a possitraction. There was also a yellow 1969 4 speed 2+2  427 car I new of. I will also tell you I had a neighbor that bought a new 1965 Custom Sport convertible black with a white top, red interior, loaded except A/C, 409 4 speed. One other strange one was another neighbor having bought a 1966 wagon, 389 with a 4 speed, A/C, and manual steering. It was a green car and it was almost new, so I dont know how it ended up in Canada. I also had a 1965 GTO white 4 speed that was bought new in Edmonton at Jenner Motors. "

IN ALBERTA CARS ARE SOLD WITH BILL OF SALE, THERE IS NO TRANFER OF OWNERSHIP. THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CARE WHAT YOU OWN HERE. WHAT WE HAVE HERE IS REGISTRAITION, WHICH IS NOT MANDATORY UNLESS YOU ARE GOING TO PUT THE CAR ON THE ROAD. CARS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN REGISTERED IN 15 YEARS OR MORE ARE PURGED FROM THE SYSTEM, SO THERE WOULD BE NO INFO ON IT. IF IT HAS BEEN PURGED FROM THE SYSTEM YOU NEED TO GET AN OUT OF PROVINCE INSPECTION ON THE VEHICLE, EVEN IF IT WAS LAST REGISTERED IN ALBERTA. THEN IT IS ENTERED BACK INTO THE RECORDS. IF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN WRITTEN OFF IT GETS RED FLAGGED. THOSE RECORDS MAY BE KEPT LONGER (I DON'T KNOW), BUT YOU WOULD STILL NEED A VIN# TO CHECK ON THAT.

I suspect I know where that car is. No, it's not for sale and he really won't say much about it or do anything with it.
