Oooops, puttin my foot imn my mouth again...LOL

So here I am browsing the KIJIJI ads at the classic cars as I like to do and I come across this ad for a Lincoln MK2 @ $14,000

SO being the nice helpful guy that I am biggrin....

I fire off an email advising him that he incorrectly posted his ad at $14,000 instead of $1400.

WELL I got a return email advising that it was me that was wrong and that it is actually $14,000. no

Really, cmon is this like 1 of 20 made or something? ???????

I've a good mind to sick Big Ray on him.wink

These Lincolns were pretty much hand built. Ford lost thousands on each car sold (and they sold for something like 10 grand new). There were 1300 made in 1956. The paint was wet sanded and polished. This was Lincoln's flagship car. 14k is about right.

Todd you are so right about this very special Lincoln. If sold on a world market this is actually a very good price. Some cars are recession proof and this very rare, very sought after and very exclusive collector vehicle is one of them. Not for the regular every day kind of car collector. Some American car collector is going to scoop up this one for sure. Cheers. George.

Neat to see these rare ones. (It looks like it will need to be hand built once again.)

Wow. I had no idea. HaHa I really thought he made a mistake. I did some Google research and yes I see now.
What a beautiful car that could be. I stand corrected. It really is a very special Lincoln.

427Carl - you go ahead and buy the $8000 car. When you get it home give me a call and I'll pay you double.

( too good to be true - probably is )

These cars were built at at time when a Cadillac Brougham sold for $13,000 and Continentals for about $10,000, both more than the RR as already pointed out.  Even Rat Boy knows a classic. Fully restored these cars can fetch $50,000. These cars are not even that hard to restore since there is a huge following in the US and parts are available either OEM or newly manufactured however production was very low. I agree with Ted, that black car for $8,000 is a joke or con.  I doubt many of these ever ended up in Canada so to see one here is remarkable. I don't know if $14,000 is the right price for this fixer upper but certainly it is a 5 figure project car.

Oh one other thing, I don't think it is a Lincoln, I believe Continental was a short lived seperate Divison of Ford.

I believe Rat Boy to be correct!  wink

Also, to give an idea of where these cars stood in the marketplace at the time:

Among exclusive owners of the Mark II were
New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller,
Milton Eisenhower (brother of U.S. President)
singers Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Louis Prima,
actors Walter Brennan and Stewart Granger,
and movie moguls Cecil B. DeMille,
Darryl F. Zanuck, Mike Todd, and Jack Warner!

Tobacco baron R. J. Reynolds and
Nevada hotelier Bill Harrah
were also included, as was
shipbuilding tycoon and erstwhile
automaker Henry J. Kaiser!

Some additional information on the car listed for sale:

"It went off the road in 1969. The car was driven into a dry barn until 2006. I moved it into my garage it sat there till 2011. Now it is in a storage unit cause i ran out of room for it. I filled the engine block with diesel to try and get it to free up. The engine will need a complete rebuild but all the original parts are there."

That car is a good investment IF the new buyer can do most of the work himself.

Hmmmmm... wonder how RatBoy came up with the additional information? Maybe he's thinking of adding a six figure automotive piece of history to his stable???? Let the rumours start now!

If I was to pull the trigger on a car of this genre it would be the Cadillac Brougham. Never owned a Ford, not about to start now, even though the Continenetal is cool.

Total agrement with you Ray. This Sweet Caddy would be on my DREAM LIST for sure. A far better looking car than the Continental and of course she is a GM, which makes it even sweeter. This car as you know came with dual four barrell set up. Sweet, sweet sweet. Can you imagine spending $13,000 on this beautiful car back in 1957. That was probably the cost of an average house back then. Cheers. George.

I have driven and spent some extended time with Lincolns over the years and I will admit they are a fine riding and put togther car, no doubt about it but as George points out once a GM man always a GM man.

These cars, the Continental and Brougham were reserved for the richest of the rich back then, even more than a Rolls and GM lost about $10k on evryone they sold. Sinatra was about at his peak in 56/57 and he owned both!
