That is a neat story from Tom. I suspect that all of these would have interesting owners, they cost more than a Rolls so that limits them to only the very rich and famous.

Interesting about the Continental Ted, but back in those days it took at least 3 years to bring a car out so I woul postulate that Ford had done some corporate espionage on Cadillac and pushed the Continenntal earlier than the Cadillac. Afterall GM and Cadillac were the top of the world back then.

Yum!

HIGHLIGHTS

- Cruise control
- Automatic memory seat
- Automatic power antenna
- Signal-seeking twin speaker radio
- Air conditioning
- A bar and vanity set
- An automatic headlight dimmer
- Tissue dispenser and E-Z eye tinted windshield
- 3 seashell horns and one trumpet horn
- Tubular crater X-frame

DESCRIPTION

The daring Eldorado Brougham was the most lavish and expensive model built by Cadillac in 1957, each one costing the Division $10,000 to sell at its then-monumental list price of $13,000. Even then, the Brougham paid off well for the sheer marketing and advertising power it generated thanks to buyers such as Frank Sinatra. Illustrating the cars opulence is this Black and brushed stainless example, body number 109 in the production sequence. Among the cars many accoutrements are a Dual Quad V-8, cruise control, front and rear climate control, automatic memory seat, signal-seeking radio with automatic power antenna, a magnetized bar and vanity set, air conditioning, Autronic Eye headlight dimmer, tissue dispenser, tinted glass, and seashell and trumpet horns.

my friend Steve Plunkett has one. Formerly owned by Bob Hope. The car came with full service history from Hollywood. Bob lived in Burbank. I was fortunate enough to work on it. Its truly a remarkable car. Cadillac has always been ahead of its time in engineiring. thanks for posting

The over done Brougham is probably in direct response to Ford bring out the 56/57 Continental. Both of which lost money on every car.

I say the car has "Ray" written all over it.

I would say the air bag front suspension is leaking or replaced with steel coils and the rear is sitting too high. No mention of "air ride" in description so it has likely been disabled.
A friend of mine also has one. He bought it and drove it back from California in 1969.

My favorite Caddy. Alot of class. But the 56/57 Continential was also a great design. Bill Schmidt was head of the Ford design team and they started in 1952 with the idea of out classing Cadillac. Schmidt also designed the 1955 Futura (aka. Batmobile).

Thinking Ford scouped GM with the Continental and this was a response without an entire new design.
