Road Trip

My Daughter and I picked up Bill's 64 cs on Monday morning. Drove it back to Barrie, nice drive. It felt like old times, this car is part of my "Bucket List". Now the work begins.

Very nice car Brian! I considered buying it myself! Sounds like you will really treat it well and enjoy it!

Bill is a good guy to deal with, a real staight-shooter.

By-the-way, are you a magican?

My daughter Brianne posted this photo she took of the 64 driving down the 401 heading to Barrie. She commented that nothing fell off for the whole 2hr trip.  Which was a good thing.

Very nice car. I'm sure I saw it on a parking lot in St. Catherines, Ontario in the late 80s. Hard to forget a red on red 4 speed 64 Custom Sport.

You are correct. It was a St. Catharines car. Bet it looked alot better than it is now, but this is WHY we buy them to restore and bring them back to life.

That is a sharp car. Please start a thread when you start working on it. I'm sure I'm not the only person who'd love to be kept up to date on progress. What all needs to be done to the car?

Thanks Todd and all the great replies I have received from the members. When I have a project I enjoy doing all the work myself. So everything replaced right now is being done for DOT certification. Today was clean and repaint both front wheel wells, change brake shoes and new correct whitewall tires. Tomorrow new rear tires installed, so I will take some pics of what had to be replaced back there. the complete trunk area has been redone now. I will use this as a driver and the spacious trunk is a bonus. When I was welding the trunk patches my mig welder and I fit in there no problem. I have changed all fluids, but the engine will stay dirty for now. I have done a good tune up, but the new cam and lifters, plus MSD HEI will go in later. I will post some pics tomorrow.

Years ago I did a dumb thing. There was an identical twin to your car in Winnipeg, colour, powertrain, everything. I knew the guy who owned it. The car was getting rusty and rather than buy it, on the promise of getting a Nova 12 bolt posi as a finder's fee, I connected a buyer and seller. The buyer stripped the car for pieces for his own 64. The dumb thing I did???

1) I didn't buy it and assisted in it actually being parted out

2) Trusted a virtual stranger and got nothing for leading him to the car and helping him purchase it... I never did get my posi that was promised to me.

I dwell on some of my past exchanges and of helping other people obtain cars or parts Carl. Did this car you were involved with come to Ontario?

No, I think it became a Toyota. It was definitely scrapped after the goodies were all stripped off.

I liked the photo of you cruising down the 401. That is definitely a car with some style to it. Not like today's cookie cutter look.

Hey Brian, My daughter Brianne took that shot from her phone. I had a similar car in 1964 a 4sp 425hp 409. Even though this car is also a 4sp, we all know in my mind which car I was driving that day. Memories are great when you can re-live them.

Some changes and repairs. A ton more has been done, and car now dives like new. Bit of rust in trunk, and rear body mounts needed to be built (typical), suspension changes for better ride and look, new whitewalls and rims blasted and repainted. Steering changes, and some rearwheel rust has been cut out repaired and painted. car runs like new now. Engine mods will come this week. Still having fun.

...lookin' very sweet Brian..that's a rare Indian. Do you have any production numbers yet from GM? And I can't remember if I asked you the rough mileage on that 327. Are you doing a rebuild when you install the cam or do you think she'll hold up OK?

The car had 2 sets of plastic coil risers on each side. Took them out with my sawz all. It lowered the front end 2" to normal height. The back coils had metal coil expanders (2), so out with the sawz all again and now it sits normal and rides excellent.

Hey Neil, The engine has over 100,000 miles on it. All fluids were changed, some seals and it sounds great plus I have put about 1,000 on it with no oil loss or any issues. I will replace lifters with the cam change. With the tune-up and carb. set-up properly it really runs nice. I still have to change a front drivers motor mount. I love driving it and will take it to Chris's place in Owen Sound for the BBQ. this weekend.
