I remember seeing a 1975 version of the Free Spirit Pace Car replica when Kerr Pontiac-Buick-Cadillac had one in the showroom in Oakville, Ontario. I later saw the car on the road, then it was repainted minus the graphics (shame) probably around 1980/81. I must say that I knew the 76 Pace Car version spawned some replicas, although I have never actually seen one in person. The one for sale in the ad is excellent and very well preserved with original paint & tires.
The actual 1976 Pace Car had many hidden modifications, including weight reduction via the removal of the bumper rebars & internal door guard beams. Buick also used it to showcase the direction they were going with the recently reintroduced V6. The actual 1976 Pace Car had a turbocharged 231 V6, something that wasn't released into production until the 1978 models (and in a lot milder state of tune). In contrast, the 1975 Pace Car was running a 455, an engine that was dropped from the Century line after 1974.
That 76 Free Spirit in the ad is running a 350 Buick, something the production replicas all had.
