1957 engine decode?? Engine - 9V76399

Hi Guys

I'm looking for some help with the engine code for my 57.  I know a "W" designates a 6 cylinder but I haven't found any info on my engine code.  I know it's a V-8 but not which 283 it has or what the "9" represents.  Any help would be appreciated.

Is that number a Pontiac or Chevrolet? A Chevrolet number like 0123456F57E is the
number 0123456 is unit number
plant F Flint Michigan or T Tonawanda NY
Year 57 for year built
Type designation E 283 4 barrel

Hi guys. 

The car is a 1957 Canadian Laurentien.  The car has the 8 in the VIN as well as the B.S.O. code 340 which tells me it's a 283.  I was hoping to find out which 283 it had.  Anyway to tell???
