Never ever spattered on canadian cars.  For sure it was added later.

I would do it body color for sure.

I can tell you in the states, Chevy's 62-67 had a black base with gray and white splatter paint.  1968 and up started the black and aqua paint.

This paint was water base and upon completion of spraying, it was necessary to spray over it with clear in order to keep it from smearing.

I have 4-5 repro trunk mats for full size cars that are gray and white to match the factory trunk paint.

I CAN'T SAY FOR SURE FOR ACADIANS AND BEAUMONTS, BUT THE FULL-SIZE CANADIAN PONTIACS HAS BODY COLOR TRUNKS AND FIREWALLS THROUGH 1968. '69 WENT TO BLACK FIREWALL AND SPATTER PAINT TRUNKS.

'68 GP FIREWALL. NO TRUNK PICTURE OF THIS ONE, BUT IT SHOULD BE BODY COLOR LIKE THE FIREWALL.

Seems to be a variety of answers on the splatter in the trunk.

Were Canadian Pontiacs splattered or painted and if they changed from one

to the other  what year did it change?

Any GM info on this anywhere?

Also was the splatter dark or light gray?

Any info would be appreciated.

Your trunk picture seems that it's colour with splatter on top of the colour?

Is that the method used? Colour with splatter or a solid colour?

There must be some production information out there about trunks from Oshawa.

Guraranteed the Canadian Ponchos of all shapes and sizes 63-67 inclusive have body colour trunks and firewalls from new. I am not sure about years before or after that.

I ASSUME YOU ARE REFERING TO THE HINGE AREA. I BELIEVE THE BODY COLOR IN THAT AREA IS FROM PAINTING THE HINGES. I DON'T BELIEVE GM WOULD PRIME THE TRUNK, PAINT IT BODY COLOR THEN COVER OVER THE PAINT WITH THE SPLATTER. THAT IS EXRTA WORK AND WASTED MATERIAL. I DON'T THINK THEY MASKED OFF MUCH, IF ANY, SO THERE IS USUALLY NO DISTINCT SEPARATION LINES BETWEEN COATINGS. MY 2+2 IS A LOW MILE / UNMOLESTED ORIGINAL SO WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT THEY DID.

I may have spoken too soon. It may be 64 and up, according to what I am seeing here.

sent an email to Gm Heritage Center  asking the question about trunk paint vs spatter for different years in the 60's

here's the answer:

I talked to our archivist and unfortunately we do not have the information that would enable us to answer your question.

The entire trunk of my 67 Beaumont is the same as the exterior, Tahoe turquoise blue.  I just pulled out the old original mat tonight to replace it, was never out before.
