beaumont decode...

Here's what I came up with
73667 = 66 or 67 Beaumont Custom convertible
2-12-6 = production date = 2nd shift Dec 6th

832922 = consecutive production number
paint E = Royal Mist Metallic ( Dupont code DUM-2087)
Trim 387 = blue interior 66 only ( so this answers the year question above )
M35 = powerglide automatic transmission
A51 = ?
C06 = power folding top
TP10 = top colour

A51 is either Sport Deluxe (Sport Option) or buckets, depending if it's 66/early 67 or a later 67.

It has a console, looks to be originally as Installed. Yes it is a 66 sorry about that.

I believe the issue is that the 565 Custom 8 cyl convertibles refers to both the "Custom's" and the "SD's" as they did not differentiate between the two? However, somehow it's been determined that there were 57 of the SD convertibles produced?  (SD's were 1/10 as common as Custom's in '66?)

Also, when I asked GM if they could advise as to how many SD convertibles came with the 327 I was told... "Beaumont Custom convertibles" (which includes "Custom's" and "SD's")... Cdn built Malibu convertibles... and CDN built SS convertibles... totalled 177.

Confusing huh? Have you ordered the build sheet from GM yet?

For 1966 on the Beaumont & Canadian Chevelle, A51 referred to The Sports Option. You will not see D55 on the trim tag because it was automatically included. What that means is if your car came with a Powerglide, a 4-speed, or if it was 396-powered (any trans with the 396) a console was included.

If your A51 Sport Deluxe came with a standard 3-speed column shift with either of the sixes or either of the small block V8s, there never was a console. The 396 cars required a HD 3-speed floor shift as a minimum so those came with a console.

It was the same situation for the 1967 Beaumont & Canadian Chevelle, that is until the 738-series Sport Deluxe & 138-series SS396 were introduced in the end of November 1966 & the A51 Sports Option was simultaneously cancelled. From that point on, A51 referred only to bucket seats and were an independent option for Sport Deluxe & Custom models. D55 became a separate option and Canadian cars so equipped would then have D55 coded on the trim tag. At that point you could get a car with buckets and a column shift for the automatic. I believe some cars built around the crossover period were ordered without the console because nobody knew any better. There were probably a few surprised people when those cars were driven off the carrier.
