I wasn't even close to being born yet but my connection with Expo'67 are the Coffee Tables and end tables that I have collected. They were built by the Canadian company R.S.Associates from Montreal and were featured during Expo biggrin

It would have been July 1967 George, my Dad's company (Philip's Electronics in Leaside) closed the last two weeks of July every year for holidays. I was also 9 at the time.

Great all around original car! Well priced too!

I was an Expo kid ... At the age of 7 I lived in Montreal, my Aunt baby-sat me and she had a season's pass ... I went there 100s of times in the summer of '67.

Not close. I said Id help him as much as I can. I have plans for Tues and will be out of comission for a tad. Even if guy said he would accept, which he has not even replied to. Would be 2 weeks min before I could go get it for him. Id have to take a train and drive it back. Id also have to figure out what would be best decision for insurance. Do I put insurance and ownership in my name under classic car ins? Or put it in his name and have me insure it? He turns 14 Tuesday. We are taking a hiatus off wheel polishing for a bit since the move.(1 done,3 to go) Those Welds would look AWESOME on that car. He said this morning he hasnt heard back so perhaps he got asking price and its sold. To me would be perfect car for him for his 1st car. Lots of steel. Got respect a kid who would rather drive a Poncho vs a Soup can fast and  furious.I just picked him up a bottom roller Beach Tool box off kijiji last night. His top box is over full. This box is bigger than mine!!! Kid is spoiled with love....sorry off topic....I am a very blessed dad to have a kid with his eyes on the lord, cars on the brain and never been in trouble a day in his life. I am very blessed. For my boys sake (Back to topic), Id love nothing more than the guy to accept his offer. But I can not move my appt Tues. Its kinda important.

Think you'll find that a "low" offer by e-mail will be"ignored" & put down as a "scammer" Thats what I did when I got one or two on the wife's car. Figured " how can you make an offer without even seeing the car" My 2 cents on that!!

He is a 13 yr old boy. Left his number to call and explained we live 6+ hours away. Highly doubt he associated a reply as a scammer. Perhaps low ball offer instead. I still commend him for looking for an old car either way. Atleast he is not pissing his weekends away smoking fatties, drinking underage and stealing etc. I doubt he will get a reply anyway. If it was closer we would jump in the car and look at it. Sure would be a pain the butt to drive 12-13 hours return to have offer shut down. The search continues. :)

Surely someone here in the Ottawa area would go have a look & possibly put your off on the table in "PERSON"??? I commend your son's interest, but again the seller might not take a 13 yr. old too "seriously" on e-mail or phone call??? Too many scam adds saying "wanted father & son project, willing to pay "X" amount that's usually a low ball figure!!! I think this car has been for sale for awhile now!! Remember seeing it in late summer i think!! Keep at it, you never know. Pete

I NEVER CONSIDER ANY OFFERS LESS THAN ASKING PRICE UNLESS THE ITEM HAS BEEN VIEWED BY THE PERSON MAKING THE OFFER, OR A REPRESENTITIVE OF THAT PERSON. TO ME, MAKING AN OFFER WITHOUT FIRST SEEING SOMETHING IS THE TRUE DEFINITION OF A "LOWBALLER". NOT THAT I'VE NEVER DONE IT, BUT VERY RARELY.

I agree with this.  If I can be totally candid, my first thought would also be "how can you make me an offer on this if you haven't even seen it?".

I know when I have sold some of my old cars in the past, I generally price them on the low side because I want to sell them quickly (which I always have), and that I want the car to be affordable to somebody who wants to enjoy the car as I have.    When I feel I've priced the car reasonably I get a little annoyed when somebody offers me half what I'm asking for the car, and that's when they've come to look at it.

In this case, the car has been in his family for its entire life, is in excellent condition (from the pics), and is priced extremely reasonably (like the cost of a cheap paint job).  It was appraised for $12500, which as we know always runs high, but I think it speaks for the condition of this car.   I would think a low-ball offer from somebody who has not seen the car might not be considered by him.

Depends on how it is presented, though.  I know if I were the seller, and I received an email to the effect "I'll give you $1500 for it", I would ignore the email.   However, if I received an email to the effect of: "I'm a 14 year old who loves old cars and would like to get an early start in the car hobby with help from my dad, and I'll give you a standing offer of $1500 for it in the event that you do not sell the car for your asking price."  I'd respond politely that I don't think that I would sell it at that price, but I'll keep your email in case I ever change my mind.  Maybe when the snow starts flying the seller might just reconsider.

Just my 2¢.

The owner seems old school (nothing wrong with that) by his line, "If you are interested, please send me a private message with a phone number and let's chat."

He seems very approachable, and the type that would get back to you if he deemed it necessary.

I don't think he put that much thought into it. Did you guys put that much thought into things at 13? When I was 13 I wasn't even thinking of trying to buy a car let alone proper buying procedures. LOL My son offered all thr money he had saved. I remember buying my 1st car at 15. Got screwed over. Paid $900 for it, and found out it had a $900 lein. My dad got some people to pay him a visit. Lien was cleared in 24 hrs

When I was 13, the car on the left had quarters made of galvanized tin pop riveted up to resemble quarters.
I fixed all that at 17, after I begged my dad not to scrap the old girl.
Got a few more years out of her, but her time was really up.
You know, if this thing is still around when you are feeling better, I could be up for a road trip.
I live near Poncho Headquarters and it looks like I will have some time now between jobs.
Good lucK Tuesday !

I hope I didn't come across as being too harsh.  Your son should be commended (and hopefully rewarded) for his efforts.  I was just hoping to help with some insight as to what it might look like from the seller's perspective.

I got my first car when I was 15, with help from my Dad in going to look at it.  Paid $200 of my hard-earned paper route and odd-job money, didn't know jack-all about cars but had super-sized enthusiasm.  Got all excited from starting it up in the driveway and choking on the fumes while listening to the powerglide whine.  It was a pretty sad car (though it was a Beaumont wink), not a well-preserved cherry like the one your son is looking at.  I "worked on" the car for a year with my cheap-ass junk tools and a can of bodyfill, "fixing" it in hopes that I could drive it when I got my license at 16.  The sad reality is that sitting outside in the driveway in a harsh climate such as ours, more things deteriorated on it than I had the ability to fix (my Dad wasn't mechanically inclined so I was on my own) and ended up selling it for $150 despite my "improvements". biggrin

I lost money on it, but gained valuable experience, and was able to buy much better cars as time went by.

As I said near the end of my post, if a standing offer is made and the seller acknowledges it, you never know what might happen if the car goes unsold.  Might be a good deal for your son.  If not, although it might seem like the end of the world for him he has many years ahead of him to get a car, and I'm sure he'll do just fine with the benefit of your love and guidance.

I wish you and him the best of luck!
