He can sell them as long as he doesn't imply how you use them.

It's up to the buyer whether they want to get into ca ca by using them the "wrong way".

You mean like the Smoke Licence Plates Covers

Illegal to use but OK to sell.

Sent to my brother at MTO headquarters to bounce of the water cooler crowd.

I'll stick my neck out here and say it's not even legal to sell the VIN tag I bet. Cowl tag is fine.

I have to laugh every time we see these items for sale and the reaction is outrage. How naive are you guys ? Hillar had a complete stamping set and plenty of these things in his hoard and to think that cars are not rebodied and re VIN'd, well come on we are not living under rocks are we?

Agreed, but that's not the point, it's still not legal to remove a VIN tag.

Think i told the story of old car club member re moving a VIN tag & placing it on another 'same model car?? RCMP came to his work place 7 put the ' bracellets" on him. One of the cars came across the border no taxes paid But the Vin removal was the KICKER!!!! Def. NO NO!!!!

I feel sorry for the people who buy those smoke coloured plate covers and assume that they are legal to use because they are legal to buy.

If it came back that it was illegal, I would be the first to email the guy to tell him.

My point is that I give the guy the benefit of the doubt here.

If it is illegal, he may not even know.

ok  so  let say   you dont remove  it  but  you  remove  the the  door  pillar  instead  and  weld  it  on a another  car  ?????   Or  what ever body part the  vin  is  fixed on

basicly  you  did ::  not  ::    remove the vin  tag   from  the  pilar  , but  you removed it  from  the  carconfuseconfuseconfusewith the  pilar   ooops  but  you  needed that door pilar  the damned door would  not  close  right...........safety  issues  here !!

you  have to  have  a very  smart cop  to  figure one of these weld  done  jobs

Can't argue with you. Where is the line?

I've seen this discussed a number of times and it's always the same outcome, what part of the car can you cut off to put on another car and still be legal? And there is no right answer.

How is it that those Dynacorn bodys get sold new? Even though they are priced pretty steep I'm guessing by now there's a few formally rusted Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers and Chevelle's that have had more then a simple panel replacement and are back on the road registered as Camaro's, Mustangs, Challengers and Chevelles.

well in my opinion , we are sweating our balls providing some restoration to original cars , finding parts and replacing body panels , trunk , floor panels etc , juste like i am doing to my Beaumont ( cause i love that old gem ) owned it for almoste 30 years !!

so either you get your hands on a southern dry car , and paid top dollar most of the time , or.............if you are really into money , get a Dynacorn or Golden Leaf body and laugh at us fools for getting our nice little hands dirty and going through all the effort !!!!!!

a repro body is definitively the easy way and i hope any purist will be able to tell if a 100 G + car is a Dynacorn body or not , i dont beleive the merit of the owner of a car like that , i beleive in the TIME CORRECT ORIGINAL CAR , not a copy from the 2010 and latter era

in my book , these body could be bringing down the appreciation of an original car ( if Dynacorns ever get to popular )

so in my opinion................hope this body repro thing does not come to easy in order to get the completed project on the road , or with a ligit title.

I think this whole subject depends on the intent involved......Clearly, the ad in the above post has the intent of fraud....He is wanting a buyer to buy those things and apply them to another car, a car with no ownership or maybe stolen. He is supplying everything needed.
If you are restoring your car and replace the body tub with another and already have your tag and ownership, there is really no intent of fraud. Jeep guys do this all the time
How the courts might look at it may be another story

Thank you for being interested in buying my 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle which is in perfect condition, with no scratches on it, no accident, always garaged, everything about this car functions perfectly. My final price is CAD $4,850 including shipping to your address (only in Canada). The car is located in Canada but currently I am located in London,UK because I just got divorced my husband and then I decided to move me closer to my parents. The car was awarded to me in our divorce and I decided to sell the car.As I'm unable to travel in the near future and I don't have anyone to help me with the sale I decided to make this transaction through eBay. I believe this protects both buyer and seller and it's the right way to do this.So don't get me wrong and don't take it personally but I would prefer to secure the deal through eBay.Basically the money will be sent to them and they will keep the money until you will receive the car and only after you will inspect and drive the car they will forward the money to me.
I will wait your answer (if you are interested to buy) very soon and i will also explain you all terms for this transaction.
Regards,
Jennifer

Here's my 2 cents. Be very carefull swapping VINs or trim tags as all of these cars had discreet VINs stamped somewhere on the body and frames for body on frame cars. The police have access to these locations and we don't.So unless you tear your rust bucket apart to find this stamped panel and re-body your car around it and your door hinge pillar you can and will be found out eventually. I know debate rages over what constitutes a car but 2 small chunks of steel do not.
