carb and intake set up

hi there i am going to replace the carb and intake set up on my 64 poncho, i put in a built 350 that is .40 over with a mild cam. nothing to major. i am not happy with the q-jet style holy that i have on it now. i am thinking of going for a edelbrock performer rpm intake and 600-650 carb (thunder or performance series). any thoughts of set up i should go with, i want simple and reliable. what series of intake and card, and if not edelbrock what brand, cost is a bit of a factor.
   thanks

You want simple and reliable? Put on a Quadrajet. They are great. Reliable, good fuel economy, good perfomance.

I couldn't agree with these guys more. Quadrajet is the best smallblock carb made in my opinion. Best fuel milage of any carb due to the small primaries and more wide open power than you can imagine when the secondaries open. The edelbrock carbs are good but they are just a copy of the old carter AFB that came on many dodges. I run one and I know of a few others that have them. Pretty good carb out of the box. For the intake, I would run the performer RPM air-gap intake since it is still a dual plane intake but it is the tallest of the dual planes and I have seen dyno tests with this intake which prove it to make better AVERAGE hp and torque numbers than any single plane. Max hp it is still behind but not by much.

I've got dual Carter 4 bbl. set up on the 64 catalina jetted down to 94's all around, Works well!! 52 has 2 Edelbrock 550 Thunder Series carbs on it 358 [350 ,40 over & Eckler cam 3:42 gears]& it's 'astounding" when you plant your foot in it!! all I did was set the idle from out of the boxes!!!!!

Quadrajet is the BEST carb for ANY street driven GM engine......SMALL primaries for cruisin' fuel economy & BIG secondaries for the "big FLUSH" when you need it!

The technology is there to build them now.......guys are running in the 11's or better  on Q-jets.....,,PLUS they DON't burst into flames arbitrarily like those aftermarket carbs are prone to.

Look for a stock 67-69? 4bbl cast iron intake (still had the oil fill pipe) for the factory look....

I have a good selection of Quadrajets available with good muscle car numbers, I would say my nicest at $400  + shipping is a 7040202 used on L48 350's. I have others from $100 up ranging from 1967 to 1975 models. I have a load of Buick 850 cfm's, Pontiac 400, 428 and 455 and BBC 396-454 quadrajets too. Just PM me.

I also like Edelbrocks as Pete has said they usually bolt on and go right out of the box, especially true when using on a Chevy small block.
