Long time ago a friend [now passed away] built one like that, & we took it to Hersey PA. Had a 454 & 'farmer" 4 spd. but hauled really well. We got to Kingston Ont. pulling a house trailer & it was time to switch fuel tanks, flipped the dash switch & guage never changed, just as approached a service centre we "RAN DRY"!!! Coasted in the ramp & upto the pumps. Rest of the trip we dragged around that other full tank, but couldn't use it!!!!! Jim bought a nice 64 Chevy P/up [from Tenn.] as soon as we got there, used it as transportation, then brought it back with us & he flipped it in a matter of a week!!!!

I owned and used one of these for 5 years or so.  Mine was a 6.5ltr turbo diesel and I needed every bid of it's torque.  My ramp bed was 19' and with the dove tail in the back it is very hard to judge distance while backing up.  I did enjoy not pulling a trailer and once under way you will have a great ride until you hit the grades.

I don't think I would want to own a gas truck.  They are very expensive with a duramax but that is what works best.  I still managed to pull a 24' enclosed trailer.  Total length was 58', close to the max in US.
