Generator - 1102096 9 J24 - failure. Help needed?

Hi

I tried to hook it up like a motor - grounding field til the generator frame bolt- + on A and - on Field.

I used my 4 amp 12 V charger.

It didnt spin - there was a lot of sparks on the Amature pole?

Shall I polarize it first?

Hi

I have no charging..

Generator - 1102096 9 J24

I checked the voltage regulator and it looks to be ok no burnt wires or points.

I have dismantled the generator.

Tried the magnetisme test before i pulled it from the car - didnt show and kind of magnetisme.

The resistance on the armature shows 0 ohm messuring Bar to Bar resistance and on two commutator bars 180° across from each other and between stacks and commutator.

The resistence between the poles A and F is 7.2 ohm.

I have cleaned it all and put it back together.

Should I be able to messure any kind of Amp or V when spining the armature ?.

Is there any way to test it further before I put it back in the car?.

I believe the previus owner has wired it the wrong way to the voltage regulator.

I found the:

Generator ground wire was on GEN on voltage regulator.

Generator A wire was put on field on voltage regulator.

Generator Field wire was on the ground terminal on the voltage regulator.

What kind of damage can this have coursed?.

I hope some one can help me.....thanks

Have you polarized the Generator, if the battery was dead or remove for 30 days ,the generator will loose its temporary magnetism.  Correct method is in the gm manual or it was also in a earlier post.

Yes, you must polarize it first.

Photos wil come very soon

It hasnt been on the road for many years so there is quite a few details that need to be fixed .

Next problem that needs to be solved is a leak in the brake system that accured after the MOT test.
I guess they have blown a gasket in one of the front brake cylinders

And then a adjustment of the valves - they seams to be a bit noisy.
Does some one have a sound clip or a link to sound clip of a correctly adjusted 6 cylinder 261 cui engine?

So right now its standing on 4 wooden blocks in my garage.

Looking foreward to take it on a good long test ride in 2-3 weeks time.
