It may overheat as the thermostat provides a guage to keep the coolant in the radiator. Without it the coolant may go through the radiator too quick and overheat.
I think the main problem is they gave me a 195 degree instead of a 160 so my motor guage is 3/4 to the right almost to the "H" so i think i will pick up a 160 tomorrow and try that.

i was more concerned with the therm not opening till radiator was 190 and dash guage showed 3/4 hot used to run at 1/2 before i put the "Clear view " housing in, so i will start with a 160 and try that out. let it idle on drive way for a full hour and therm never opened but guage says 3/4 and after going for a 10 minute
drive the therm opened fully with the guage almost at the "H"
When I used to oval race we would try out out different size holes in washer type metal to slow down the flow .Most times it was 5/8 or 3/4 in hole with bypass blocked off.
with a 4000 thousand plus wagon that tows, and a 327 that has 10.7 compresseion, i run a 160 for the summer and a 180 for the winter, they are both high flow units, if that helps
A 180 degree is what shoould be in a 6cyl. I have a 180 in my Invader and checked various places with an infrared thermometer after running the car for about 20 miles. Temp at thermostat housing just below the thermostat was 187 degrees, above was 185.
The thermostat may be defective. A guy up in Kelowna ended up getting three in a row that were bad. I think he bought them at Lordco. They may have gotten a bad batch? I have a high flow in mine and it takes longer to warm up but then stays right at the rated temp. The high flow has holes drilled in it.

took out the cool view and replaced it with a standard 160 Degree thermostat.. will test it out tues

cool view people were very quick to respond when i told of my problem, he gave me a number for a 160 deg stat Stant THM#70 as well as to drill 2 3/16 holes near the center (on elther side) may try that out later.

replaced the 180 clear view therm with a 160. when i tested the 180 it did not start to open till 205 i had to remove the same part that clear-view added to the term and add it to the 160. when i tested it it worked perfectly..gauge shows just under 1/2
