Voltage regulator ???

Hi

I need som expert help..Im lost.

I have rebuild my generator and I tested it for shorts at the same time.

Also hooked it up as a motor by grounding F and hooking + to A and - to F and it spins perfectly.

I messured around 5 Amps on my charger when it was spinning.

Put the generator back in.

wired:

A to A (GEN)

F to F (field)

Ground to Ground

Battery/horn relay wire to BAT on the voltage regulator.

Its a 24 Amp Bosch voltage regulator.

I have polerized the generator again on the voltage regulator but jumping BAT to F terminal - I get a small spark.

Messuring between Ground and BAT terminal when engine running I have a lower voltage on the voltage regulator then on the battery poles?.

As It still wasnt charging I tried the workshop manual - it says polerizing by jumping BAT (+) to GEN (A) on the voltage regulator.

I got a large spark and the jumperwire almost welded itself to the BAT terminal.

I then wanted to try bypassing the voltage regulator - to see if I could get a higher output.

It should be done by grounding the F terminal - but again a bad idea engine dropped rpm and voltage dropped fast. After some sec it was back on rpm.

I tested both a 550 rpm and steady 1400 rpm - no difference.

The voltage regular looks fine under the cover and the points are clean.

All 3 point looks to be completly closed ?

Some one know what could be the problem - thanks ?

The Bosch regulator would not be original to the car ... it should be a Delco-Remy. Could that be the problem?

Its must have been there for at long time due to the amount of dirt that covered the screws/wiring.
I have foiund a replacement regulator on ebay that will fit.
Its just killing me that I cant take it on a good long drive before it gets here ;-(
