My latest Pontiac Purchase


I actually went south of Coronation  last Sunday to get this but I've been busy with visitors so I haven't been able to post this till today.This had to be the hardest car haul I have ever done.  When i met the crusty old farmer on his now abandoned property in one of the special areas of Alberta, (Basically really dry (dust bowl) prairies that tend towards drought, hail or hoppers in South east Alberta) I had high hopes for this this as it had been parked down there for 30 years.  However it had sunk on 4 flat tires into the sod to the point that i had to dig out a hole so i could even slip a floor jack under it.  The mice had really done a number on the interior, and the hood had rusted shut.

So with high hopes that this would be easy I mounted three tires and noticed with dismay that none of the drums appeared to be free.  So I suggested that we drag it around the yard a bit to losen up the wheels.  It was all my borrowed truck would to to move this dead weight (327 and TH400 still in the car,I think!)

No luck at all, so I dismounted the 4 tires, pounded on the drums and soaking them with all the penetrting fluid I had. Dragged it some more.  NOPE!

Time to reconsider options so I suggested i maybe give him his car back and I go away sadder and wiser.  He wanted that thing out of there emphatically so we opened a cold beer each that he thoughtfully brought along and we thought about it some more.

Amazingly after one cold one things looked a lot more possible!

So jacked up the back as high as it would go, took the back wheels off again and backed the trailer underneath it.  We hooked the ancient Warn winch on the trailer to the really heavy duty trailer hitch on the car and managed to get it on right up to where the front wheels were hanging.  Took them off and slid them on the drums up the ramps with some  old boards to pad it up.  Managed to jack it up on the front bumper without wrecking it to get some extra height and helped it along.  Finally got it on sitting on four drums and then chained it up.  Kind of pointless as it was not going to move but had to be done.

Total time about 5 hours,not counting a 5 hour drive each way)  Now at home still sitting on the trailer on its drums and I still haven't been able to open the $%#!@ hood.  

It seems to have a really good straight front end assembly, a  lousy (or mousey) interior and a bunch of junk in the trunk.  More then that I can't say yet 

I would say the between the two 67s Grandes I have, one with AC, and this one with a complete drivetrain, with a lot of work I could build one nice car after I take out some bits and pieces I need for the 66 Grande.

Best piece on the car is the power antenna. 

Another lesson in not looking at Kijiji on this forum!

Yeah Nailhead I tried that but i forgot to mention that after a couple good hits i broke the head of the sledge due to a bad aim and a dry rot handle., so it was back to the hard way.

As for the console i think the door is OK but it may have a chip broken out of the back.  Really haven't had time to take a good look.  Won't get back to it until Sunday at least.

Ah nothing more fun than dragging home another treasure.

Something that I have done in the past to remove drums rusted to the shoes is to cut the heads off the nails that hold the shoes to the backing plates, a couple of hits to loosen the drum from the hub and then pry the whole works off.

 Ken, your soon gonna have more '67's than I do!!! Holy moly, mice! Those little bast*rds sure fak stuff up! But, I see a speedminder in there... That looks about all though... Do you have the valance for it? Pull the seat back off of it to see if there is a build sheet!

Hi guys I unloaded the 67 Grande off the trialer finally and had abetter look at it.  Yikes!   Between the southern alberta sun and the mice there isn't much left that's any good inside.  I pulled open the rusted hood as well and discovered to my disgust that the mice had made a nice home for many generations inside the orginal 327 air cleaner.  Mice piss has rusted the heck out of the base and totally messed up the quadrajet.

Here are some pictures of what they can do to a nice car.

 You guys are good!   I haven't cleaned up the speedo well enough to see what it is yet.  As for the valence  it took off so I could get the hood open.  Its quite good actually with one minor dent.

Lotsa good parts still including a power antenna but there would have been a lot more if it wasn't for the $%^&#! mice.

Good to hear from ya Vince!   I don't know why I'm buying 67's. I must have caught something from you!

I can smell that mouse stench all the way to Regina. Close the doors on that car.

4bbl motor means that you should have a 1/2 decent set of heads. 12bolt rear axle I'm guessing. Steering wheel looks decent and intact, bucket seat cores, console parts, Looks like parted out you've got at least a grand maybe more in parts.

It has the old double bump heads alright and the 12 bolt with the two upper bars.  I'm also pretty sure it has the 15/16ths front sway bar so it really isn't all that bad except for the smell.
