He was on the phone getting insurance on it

Those are really good pictures, wonder where he got them from ?

He didn't even have the decency to photoshop the plate.

If you are watching, you can use this one.

Biting my tongue on this one.

Yeah.. really special car... dad had one just like it... I'll love it forever... blah blah blah

Heard that before.  Is there any such thing as honesty out there anymore?  Does anybody in this stupid hobby actually buy a car because they like it?

Oh well, at least you got your cash, Carl.

I get some solace in thinking that flippers aren't doing well in this stale market.  He'll likely at least have to keep it till spring before he cashes in.

I agree Ken biggrin    I have no regrets, and a lot of hundred dollar bills...

If he had said I'm "re-selling" it...  I would not have cared...

Just nosey, and wonder if something came up and he changed his mind

These young MTO guys  eh?

and your right   He won't make much if anything on it      I was going to e-mail and ask what his bottom line was   lol

The poor guy is going to get excited to see that he's had 268 hits so far.

Probably about 200 from Canadian Poncho biggrin

You should email him. Ask him if he's bored with it already. Or one of us could email him and ask "Has the crack in the frame been fixed?" biggrin

I figure he looked at the paint and decided to flip it    If it had not been painted by a moron  I would have kept it    would cost 4,000 to make it nice  crycrycry

Well Carl, - honestly its often better to sell to a 'flipper'

1.) they pay cash promptly

2.) its gone promptly without the approval of his wife, mechanic, neighbour, cousin, mailman and priest

3.) they rarely complain about anything - never hear from them again --- its hard enough letting a collector car go but to hear what they didn't like later or 'found out' later often hurts

4.) by the time he pays tax to transfer it and deals with everyone inbetween and if something even minor has to be repaired while he owns it even if he were to get asking price (which most don't) there wouldn't be much profit in it

5.) as for honesty ya- he could have said I really like these cars - I buy something like this drive it around and speculate getting more money in a more populated area where I live - of course then he would likely in a lot of cases not been able to purchase it from a potential seller

6.) bottom line - you got what you wanted out of it or you would not have sold it - true the market is soft - very nice car for the money he'll likely find an 'end user' home for it supporting the collector car hobby

7.) often the smartest way to sell a car is at auction then you have no idea what the purchaser is thinking/saying - you get your money and never question it

You have presented the other side of it and have made some good points.  The main thing is that Carl got the money he wanted out of it and can move on.  If the new "owner" can find an end user that is willing to pay for the car then good for him.  In this case they'll be getting a good car for their money.

It really depends on the integrity of the person involved.  My personal experience with flippers are as follows:

(1) Years ago I had a '68 Fury III 2 door hardtop with a genuine 13,000 miles on it.  The original owner didn't drive much but let it sit outside in east coast weather for 20 years.  It had lots of rust and body repairs.  Sold it to a guy who "loved the car" and was so happy that he "found what he was looking for".  Sold it to him for $650 which was fair given the condition of the body.  Couple of weeks go by, the car has a $200 paint job on it and rust areas concealed with undercoat to fool the next buyer - he advertised it for $2500.

(2) My boss had an old Civic that he decided to sell after seeing all the structural rust on the undercarriage, subframe mounts, etc.  It needed major work to keep it from being a parts car.  Sold it to a coworker for next to nothing after he begged for it because he really liked the car, etc etc.  Few weeks later, the car has a fresh coat of thick undercoating to hide the rust and it's in the paper for $3000... waiting for some poor schmuck to spend his last $$$ on it for cheap transportation.  Meanwhile he's laughing all the way to the bank.

I know that you buy and sell, Ken, and there's nothing wrong with that as you are honest in your portrayal of the cars to the potential buyers.  You assume risk that the car may not sell and you'll be stuck with it, I understand where you're coming from.

I just get frustrated with the negative aspects of flipping and wish that the cars would just go to the people who really want them... just my 2˘ and nothing more.

She is SOLD? The paint was bad?

Dan

She is for sale on the U.S. border

fellow bought it this week for 12g and is re-selling 15g

to qualify the paint   it was "great" for a 12g driver

         solid.... no runs etc

but for me to add another 6-8 grand of big block and 4 speed

it was not good enough (for me)

Think he bothered to change over the ownership to his name and
pay the Ontario retail sales tax on his $12,000 purchase before selling?
