My 76 high Sierra 454

original engine, built of course For absolutely shredding tires lol. Turbo 400, 3:73 posi. I do not winter drive it but in the summer it gets used like any truck should, working like a mule. Not an old truck if you ask many of the old farts on here! ...but it's before my time and it is a joy to drive.

I always thought those were really good looking trucks and that 454 just makes her all the more sweeter. You have good reason to be proud of her. Cheers. George.

When I was 17 our neighbour tossed me the keys to his brand new '74 Silverado 454 and told me to make a dump run, which was 10 minutes away. It was beauty, red and white. I returned two hours later grinning from ear to ear. I never realized a truck, wait......... any vehicle could lay rubber for a long as you had your foot on the gas.

Ok so I was sandbagging a little smile but a one ton truck and a mid size car with a one ton truck engine do act a little differently....

those where the best trucks made by Gm , i ownwd a bunch of those a couple of C 10 s ( grass cutting crews ) 2 K 15 s for pushing snow and 3 different 30 / 35 dually s with dump boxes , and those where the best years , they where simple and easy to fix but the floors and rockers where often shot after 10 years , but they whould never quit eather with a 350 or 454

one last  detail....those  where a lot  more  reliable  than  my  last GM   truck    a  98   3500   6.5  T D oouuuuu   electronic  components  on that  one where   hell  !

Agreed, great trucks, and certainly for our climate, the best heating and air conditioning system ever in a pickup truck.

I drove 73-87's and 88-98's    I'd rate the 99-06's the Best    especially the cold a/c

I don't think I ever remember seeing one or hearing of one. Was it a GM thing, local dealer package?

Incidently, the Royal Sierra Package, which was a separate option from but apparently included with the 1976 Spirit of '76 package, was actually a bundled group of the most popular options, discounted at a special price savings, packaged with the GMC Sierra Grande trim level. It was specifically intended to boost sales during the normally slow selling winter and early spring months of the year, and was offered during each model year from 1975 to 1980 (actually the package was offered in earlier years too, though not under the "Royal Sierra" name). It competed with the Ford Explorer discount option package offered on Ford pickups during those years, as well as the Dodge Prospector option groupings. The Royal Sierra packages are identical in concept and content to the Chevrolet Bonanza packages offered during the same time frames.
