He lists it as a 400 engine but it appears to be a 350. This might be due to Buick having LeSabre 400 emblems on the rear quarters as this indicates a T-400 transmission, not a 400 engine. I can't see the emblems to confirm, but a LeSabre 400 was a common deal back then.

Thanks
Randy

LeSabre 400 option mentioned under Buick LeSabre regular equipment.

Thanks

A buddy's father has a real nice 69 Buick Wildcat 2 dr hdtp with the 430.   Sadly I'm not sure how much of a market there is for these big cars.

That's interesting, Randy.  Looks like it has the top engine choice for the LeSabre at any rate, the 350-4.

I don't think I've ever heard of the LeSabre 400 package before - what was included, just the TH400 and special emblems?

As far as I know the LeSabre 400 was only a transmission option. I had a few back in the day and people thought something was wrong any time I sold one, 350 on the air cleaner, and 400 on the quarter emblem.
Folks were just as fuel conscience back then as today, so a 400 engine was not a plus to many buyers.

Thanks
Randy

That's a great looking car, I always wondered why Cadillac never used that roofline....

I've seen a few 69 LeSabre 400 models but not 68. Nice car, that shade of green in Cadillac speak is "Pastel Waxberry"

Hey, that thing looks nice. A 350 4-barrel with the TH400, massive 12" (at least) drum brakes that outperformed the disc brake competitors. I always remember liking those 65 - 68 big GM fastbacks. Solid, simple, designed by stylists in concert with engineers and for the time very impressive engineering tools.

Enter the bean counters...

A friend's father owned a 69 LeSabre 400 4-dr. Originally I thought it meant that a 400 was under the hood, but old time Buick fanciers will remember when they winkingly referred to 401s as 445 Wildcat (in reference to the torque). "400" was the Turbohydromatic 400 transmission. Jeff's dad's 69 had a 350, as it was a daily driver.

In 1970 a LeSabre 455 meant it had a 455 high compression V8 under the hood. What thirsty fun!

Thanks for the information, guys.  What an odd way for them to designate a model - almost seems like they wanted to be deceptive, but then the engine is clearly labelled for its displacement.  I always found the earlier method of naming the engine by the torque output to be a little confusing though.

It's neat that 46 years after they were made, I'm still learning new things about them...
