66 Beaumont factory console mounted tach

Does anyone know if this is the proper factory console tach for a 66 Beaumont SD convertible?  I have my doubts since it does not really match the dash gauges, no yellow ring around the gauge faces on the dash gauges.   It is not currently working, took it out today and the pointer needle, nut & washer fell out of it.  Looks like the pointer needle is missing the pin like shaft which slides into the center hole on the tach mechanism.  The brass nut has a piece of plastic shaft stuck in it which appears to have snapped off the tach mechanism, the gauge face is also cracked in several spots & appears to be distorted (melted) too.  Not sure if this unit is repairable or worth trying to repair if it's not the factory style.  If anyone has a pic of the proper tach please post it!

Thanks.

Paul

there was no tach in the console - if the car was ordered with a tach it would go in the clock position in the gauges on the dash - the clock would then go to the console- if there was no tach ordered clock would be in the gauges in the dash and a beaumont emblem would be in the console

There is a picture of the factory tach as it should appear near the bottom of this thread--- http://canadianponcho.activeboard.com/t45632666/in-dash-tach/

Thanks for the info gentlemen, I love this site! Ask a question, get a speedy answer. I thought to myself that the console was a strange place to put a tach! Thought it was a good place for a clock however. My dash clock does not appear to be working either so I'll have to investigate that further. I imagine that most automatic transmission equipped cars would not have had a tach anyway unless special ordered. Guess I have two options now, install a dash tach if I want one and find the correct console clock as I assume the dash clock won't fit the console. Or, go with no tach and try to fix the dash clock & find the Beaumont console emblem. Going to do a site search for a pic of the console clock or console emblem to see what it looks like.
Thanks again for the help guys!
Paul

I am going by memory here but I believe one of the discussions of the Beaumont clock in the console involved some detail including the fact that even though the console and clock are basically Chevelle, the clock face has a slightly different shade of colour for the numbers and background as well if I am right???

Think you are right Carl, been doing some thread searching on this site and have found some pics that indicate the numbers are blue on gray vs. gray on black for the Chevelle's. Think that's how it is? Fun trying to figure all this stuff out however but can get confusing sometimes.

In the mid-60s Oldsmobile often placed the tachometer on the console. Not very practical. As an alternate they also offered a vacuum guage in that position.
