He better have the GM documents for it or else it's only worth clone pricing. But if it's real, man oh man.....

I guess it's safe to say the air cleaner emblem is wrong, it looks pretty Chevyish.

Alberta car, so docs should be available. Well I guess since it's a Strato Chief they should be available anyway.
Nice car, just the way I like them.

Thanks
Randy

Vintage Vehicle can answer that easy enough. My question is, has anyone out there ever seen a Strato-Chief with the 409/425, or even 340hp engine before?

This is a great lookin car, numbers match or not.

I have a scan of a wholesale car order form for a 63 409 425hp Strato Chief sent to me by the original owner so it's safe to say that there could have been 64's built as well.

I keep thinking why have we never head of this 64 409 Strato? This site has a far reach and even yesterday I met someone from Timmins who knows about this and all things Chevy and Pontiac. I suppose it is possible that this car has been tucked away and being restore for the past 10 or 15 years and now that it is done has surfaced. Great car and a great story I bet.

What is the significance of that Wholesale Order Form? Seems to me that most cars were sold Retail.

Just looking at my 64 409 engine picture and the air cleaner top does not have anything on it. Would be a excellent car, and the price is not bad. My uncle Jack had the same model and colour with a 3sp and 300hp 327. He ordered it new to pull their house trailer.

Look at "all" of this sellers feedback ( go past the last 12 months) . Lots of negative feedback  for misrepresentation .

I am assuming he has no documentation because if you had the papers for a car like this, surely you would state that in the auction wouldn't you?

If there's no docs it's just a clone until proven otherwise.

Still a VERY cool car though!

I can't recall if the guy knew if it was still around. I do know he doesn't own it. He was going to email photos but never did.

He got the 425hp. I seem to  recall hearing you first had to select the base 409 then "step up" to the high HP version.

Very interesting Willard. That is great because I am betting that will be a way to prove if this post car is original or not.

Do you not have the original transmission?

I just looked up an RPO guide and RPO L 80, 425 H.P. was a $56.00 option on RPO L31, 400 H.P. priced at $320.65  for 1963.

Probably U.S. pricing I'm guessing.

Thanks

Randy

My 63 Belair (window sticker) sold in Detroit shows:

L31S Turbo Fire 409 eng                  320.65

L80A Dual 4 Barrell Carb                    56.00

The L31 is the 400 motor and the dual 4 Barrell carbs made it 425 hp

Not sure how they were ordered in Canada
