Another MPIC vintage car write off


I know it is a only FORD , but what a shame our province automatically "writes off " anything older than 1994 

Minty 70 Mustang with some front end damage . Hopefully some Ford fan can use these parts

Here in Manitoba , anything older than 1994 is automatically written off and can never go back on the road . This car is parts only now .

I find that hard to believe that it hasn't been contested and overturned. You guys have to be nervous driving your old cars out there.

 What's the rule if sold out of province, can it be registered and drivable outside Manitoba?

In B.C. we have right off vehicles and dismantle only vehicles ( depending on amount of damage). Right off vehicles can be put back on the road only after passing a stuctural and mechanical inspection. Think this would save alot of old cars if they did the same in other Provinces.

It's quite ok, Johnnee D. I am very relaxed and I can take a joke. My comment pertains more to insurance regulations and the variations from province to province.smile  Was the green GT as good as it looks in the picture?

I see in the STATUS line its "irrePARABLE" - that must be Manitoba civil servant speak for either "no hope in Hell" or "not a prayer " can save it.

Irrepairable means it cant be fixed.
Schools these days.

There definitely needs to be some lobbying from the old car community in MB on this issue. Perhaps this is where having the collector plates comes in, register as a collector and this doesn't apply to your car. I understand the intent, it's to keep cars without modern emission standards off the road, it has nothing to do with safety or structural integrity. BUT, old cars see very little mileage, and this newer rule shouldn't apply to collector cars that only see limited use.

I agree - seems like the classics are getting caught in a loophole.  This, like the rules that automatically write off any car exposed to flood damage are not meaningful for classic cars and somebody in the province needs to lobby for exemptions for the classics.

The whole idea that this car needs to be crushed because of light to moderate front end damage is ludicrous.  What a waste.
