409 pontiac

Just got back from the 2014 409 convention in Great Bend Kansas.

Had a ball even though the 61 409 pontiac wasn't ready to bring with us.

There was this nice Canadian Pontiac.

WOW !! That is beautiful.

61 is one of my favourite years and black with red guts. Perfect.

Nice car for sure, I guess painting the engine US Pontiac blue lets it fly under the radar south of the border.

Is that ever beautiful but i do not get painting the motor blue as well. It does look really tough but it almost seems like he is ashamed of it not being a Pontiac motor. Never the less what a sweet looking car.

Hey Jim what do the fender badges say. Looks like someone wanted a U.S. look to their ride. Is it a 348 or a 409?

The car wasn't exactly a factory correct restoration. It had a few custom touches, including the Pontiac blue paint on the engine.

The car looks great and it has a nice stance. It got a lot of attention.

I think it's a 348 with an Offenhauser dual quad.

The badges say "348" and I heard second hand that he had them made.

I do have some better pictures in a camera at the shop that I'll try and post tomorrow.

Here's the other pictures I've got.

Unfortunately I didn't get a picture of the 348 emblem.

That is a really nice car, 61's are some of the nicest looking Parisenne's with the bubble top. His sign board is misleading though. I have never seen a listing for a 4 speed on the floor in a 61 Canadian Pontiac and dual quads were sure not available on the 348 either in a 61 Canadian car.

Nice, ANOTHER BLACK with RED interior, 348 and 4 speed 1961 Parisenne!!! Lol.

Yes I see a few things that are wrong on that car compared to mine. Since mine being blk w/red 348 and 4 speed

I'm with Ray on this, a 4-speed would not have been a factory option on a Canadian '61. 348 tri-power with a 3-speed on the column - sure. I think it was 1961 that Pontiac U.S. offered the Hurst floor conversion. In Canada we didn't get the 4-speeds or 409s until the 1963 models. It didn't matter because most Canadian cars were ordered fairly stripped relative to the typical U.S. cars.

That 61 is super nice.

I know you could get a 4 speed in a U.S Pontiac starting in 1960.

Lets put it this way, I have both the 61 Sales Brochure and owners manual. Neither shows a 4 speed available in 1961 Canadian cars. I'd have to say that 1961 in one of my favourite cars we owned, a batwing 2dr. sedan midnight blue. Hey all I mentioned was his sign board was misleading, the car if fantastic and I think any of us would love to own it.
