I am wondering if a 1960's power steering pump will work to supply oil to an earlier power steering control valve set up. A friend has a 1957 Chev and the car came with original "power assist" power steering that has a control valve type of power steering. The motor is missing and we are looking for a later 283, 307, 267 V-8, these motors will have a different P.S pump set up, not the P.S pump that is behind the generator. My question is.............. will the later P.S. pump setup work supplying oil to an original 1957 type P.S. unit that has the control valve setup. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ahead of time. George.

George :From what I can remember the 57 pump was around 850- 900 psi delivery and the 60's pump was around 1000-1100psi. How org does he want to keep it? I think the 60's F#@d pump pres was about the same as the 57. With the increased pres I'm not sure if he'd get the right road feel. Could always put in a flow cont valve or pres rel valve or put in a f^$d pumpno.Just a novice, but I would think to put in a 60's pump and see how it feels for the 200psi diff. if he needs more road feel put in a flow cont valve. Just my thoughts
