My 1962 Pontiac Strato Chief

I introduced myself on the Welcome thread, thought I would put up a few more pics here.  So this is a 1962 Pontiac Strato Chief.  It is modified a bit so I guess it is bit of a custom.  It has a 1962 194 six cylinder engine.  I understand this is not the original engine as this car never was made with a 194.  It has split exhaust.  It has an automatic transmission

The seats have been replaced with what is apparently 1964 Grand Prix bucket seats.  It has a floor console with the shifter in the console.  The door panels are some sort of custom naugahyde look.  I suppose I can live with the door panels as I understand they don't make repros of these.

The steering wheel has to go and I have a line on an original one from the person I acquired the car from.  There are a few trim pieces not on the car yet.

I have some electrical and starting issues which I will address in their own thread later.

The hood doesn't sit right as is seen in the pics.  I have another set of hood hinges yet to go in, hopefully that takes care of it.

It's a great looking car!

I just thought I'd mention that you can usually get the hood to close pretty well even if the hinges are worn,,, as long as they're not completely worn out.
It takes some time to get it right and I find that I have to adjust the hinges in the opposite direction of what I would have guessed.
If you can get the hinges adjusted right there will be a little bit of tension that will take the slack out of the loose rivets.
Anyway, you can usually get it but it's never easy.

Rabbit64s really nice looking 62.
Thanks for the info jim ss409, I didn't know the hinges could be adjusted. I will look into how that is done before I try replace them.

Juho, first of all...........beautiful 62 vintage iron. I have always thought that the 62 was one of the most sweetest looking Pontiac's. That is one very interesting engine combination. Are you sure it is a 194 and not a 250 or even a 292. A 194 seems small for a car as heavy as a 62. The 194 only came in Chevy II / Acadian cars that were much smaller and lighter than the full size Pontiac. I see you have the split headers on the engine and that will no doubt help the power potential. As you may already know, the motor that came in your car originally, was a 261 six. That motor was a very different animal from your present generation motor that is in your car and the 261 saw its last glory in 1962.  The 194 first came out in 1962 but only in the much smaller and lighter Chevy II / Acadian models. Tell us here just how well your car performs with that motor / transmission combination. Beautiful car and the best of luck with her. Cheers. George.

Thanks long stroke, ya I thought it was a 194 when I look up the engine code from the block 3833057 That comes up as the 194.  Will see how that little mill moves this car along.  I am a little disappointed it is not the 261

Love the 62 body style with the side-by-side headlights. As a kid in the 60's, I remember a friend's father having a Strato Chief.
