How Do These Bezels Come Out??

I'm getting all my chrome ready to send out and pretty much have the dashboard stripped out- except the lighter and ignition units.

What's the secret to extracting these from the dash? When I turn the lighter unit it only rotates the center push-in part.

Another mystery is the EMERGY BRAKE HANDLE- do you drill out the pin??

Both detach from behind I believe, you need to hold the front of the bezel while turning the attachment from behind. The little pin I believe is a split pin, that should be able to tap out with a finish nail.

Lighter - you'll need to somehow hold the inside cylinder of the lighter socket, while turning the outer cylinder from behind.  Below is an exploded view photo of the lighter in my 1970, it shows the inside cylinder and the outer cylinder, I suspect yours will similar.

Ignition - if I recall, the ignition cylinder can be removed by pushing a unrolled paperclip into the small hole visible in your photo.  I can't remember if you need to turn it to a particular position, but it will come out.    Then you should be able to see how the bezel unscrews.

Sounds right to me Clint with the paper clip.  If I remember right it just twists out with the key in the ignition and the paper clip in the hole, just turning the key.

I "think" the key has to go to "ACC" then insert the paper clip, & pull out the cyl. On the lighter, remove the element & insert your thumb, to hold the inner piece & unscrew the back collar!! Easy Peasy!!!!

Correct but think you still have rotate it counter clockwise after putting in pin

OK, got both bezels off.
The trick on the ignition lock was to probe with the paper clip while the key is in the 'on' position, then turn it clockwise to the 3:00 o'clock position. There's no ACC on this one. The cylinder comes out, but in order to release the bezel you have to unbolt the 2 bolts holding on the assembly- then it will pop out.
The lighter was easy once I jammed the element with a flathead to keep it from turning while unscrewing the back.

The Emergency Brake handle? Well- the split pin can't be driven out as it's 'blind' under the handle (no exit hole out the top) and is hardened steel so drill bits don't touch it.
SOLUTION : Polish it up and live with a few small pits!!
Thanks once again for all the input guys- now I'm off to exchange some gold bars for some chrome plate!
