Interesting read 1966 Pontiac from a Dutch prospective

http://www.ritzsite.nl/Pontiac66/Pontiac_1966_06.htm

"The Laurentian was the first in line in the export range of full-size Pontiacs. Like most full-size Pontiacs offered in Europe it hailed from Canada rather than the US.  The Pontiac executives in the US figured that the Canadian adaptations of the US full-size models would appeal more to the European taste and circumstances."

All I can say is thank go for Canadian Pontiacs!! I love the big Pontiac styling combined with Chevrolet drivetrain (US Pontiac V8's are costly to build and finding parts are not easy as before for 326,389,400,421,428 and even 455's are drying up nonono). I have my eye on this '66 Laurentian though got to figure out how to get it over to Seattle from BC with customs headaches. What is this scary stuff I just found about in Ontario of the MOE?? Sounds like the gestapo of nature Nazi's harassing the classic car hobbyist at car shows. I had a guy from Ontario who just got all the factory AIR pump and emissions equipment from a '67 Caprice I'm parting out for his '67 Impala SS. He said he bought the Impala from Denver with the original 327 though had headers and aftermarket carb etc. He got pulled over before a car show last summer and the MOE cited him for a bunch of things he was not even aware of. I felt bad for him and gave him all the stuff I wasn't using anyways (stock '67 exhaust manifolds, PCV valve stuff etc). It doesn't make any sense no How many cars up to 1973 are still in salt belt up North to hunt them down like that? No offense to any of you gentleman though if any of those MOE guys tried putting their hands under the hood of my cars they would get the hood slammed down on them.

My mom went to school with kid from Mussallem motors, still in business today last time i was by there. Old dealership was cool, pink neon, Buck Kinney was working there in '56, i wouldnt be surprised if my uncles knew of him back then.

I have a Dutch '64 Pontiac brochure that has both Canadian & American Pontiacs in it, so Canadian Pontiacs were sold there ... yet I don't think we've ever heard from anyone from Holland on this site.

I'll tell ya driving a full size poncho over in Europe would have been a sweaty experience any time.  That may have been why they didn't sell many of them.  Now if they had tried to market the Acadian they may have had something.

From Page 1

"The Pontiac division of world's largest car conglomerate General Motors celebrated its 40th anniversary in 1966"

They cover US models on the other pages

"The Pontiac range which was available in Europe was an odd mix of American built mid-sized cars and full-size cars produced in Canada"

http://www.ritzsite.nl/Pontiac66/Pontiac_1966_01.htm

" I have my eye on this '66 Laurentian"

Two door Post, cool biggrin
