Made In Canada Delco-Remy Ignition Coil - Canada Only

Through the years on here, at times we have mentioned things about the unique Delco-Remy, Made In Canada (McKinnon Industries Ltd., St. Catharines, ON.) ignition coils that are found on our Canadian Pontiac engines. Canadian only.

Here's a NOS one that I picked up (didn't pay the seller's price) off eBay. The coil has instructions, nipple, and the wire end.  It has an aluminum enclosure stamped CANADA. Enjoy (not for sale, just for information purposes).

Cool buy. The container is as interesting as the coil. Always fun to think where this stuff got tucked away before it surfaces many years later.

Cool,

Ah, the memories. Back when we actually manufactured things here. Boy, those were the days.

Nice piece Pontiac, good find, the best part of a nos coil...they work. A company back in the 80s started making the aluminum casing as a sleeve for a aftermarket coil to fit in, i dont know if the sleeve is still available

We still do,  http://www.canadianmade.com/   just not as much.... and not really supported by Canadians, we'd rather buy foreign.

Sad part, not a Canadian owned company building cars except for Zenn....

Of course they are flogging off the American-made NOS 1115087 (black casing) coils as a judging-correct '63-'64 Corvette coils!disbelief They are going in the $250.00 - $500.00 range.disbelief

No, numbers-correct, Corvette freak would want a silver-coloured, Canada-made coil on their vintage show 'vette!biggrin

Yep, but first I'm going to see how the old one (original Canadian-made coil) cleans up.

I glass beaded the casing on one of mine lightly, it turned out nice, got rid of scratches and oils, leaving a light matt finish, too much beading leads to disaster

With a little finesse, you can convert a brand new, unstamped relay/regulator to a stamped vintage Delco-Remy relay/regulator by switching out the outer shells.shh.gif New inner workings with the old style look.smile

I tried that, The ears/tabs on the original regulator didn't match up with the aftermarket regulator, the originals are offset and repop more side by side, I put the new back in the box and keep it as a toolbox part. I have a few spare original regulators, coils, horn relays put aside since they are the ones that give the ars the most problems, especially horn relay.

Nice find Darryl, was it only Canadian made coils that were aluminum? I have a few.

+1 on that, as far as I've ever seen that's how it is.

Does it elevate my status if I tell you that I have a Canadian Delco-Remy silver coil from a 1965 Laurentian hanging on my garage pegboard? It has been there about 27 years. It is a spare from a 230, but I already have the correct one on my 67 250.

Finding a NOS one is pretty nice if you want the correct details on a Canadian GM. I love that sort of stuff.

Maybe by 67 they changed, or...?

66 for sure was still the aluminum coil on Canadian cars.

It appears to be original, I am going to clean engine bay and maybe I can see better the details. Not having the aluminum finish coil be due to higher production. I thought I read somewhere that the 67 was one of the best selling years.
