1964 Laurentian Wagon

Just spotted this in Fridays Province.....

Looks like a NICE car.......need some resto under the hood...and some cool wheels.....but could be fixed in a day....

How many original owner 64 Pontiacs are left....that are actually still driven...?

There's one here in town....saw it last year @ the Haney Swap Meet... a Custom Sport hardtop...really DECENT,as well....

Pontiaccanada (quote) Nice. I like the wheels ... they look period.

  JMO......wheels look WRONG...PERIOD.....way to BIG........and FLASHY...for a "period" wagon.....

I grew up in a 64 Parisienne 4dr.ht.......that my dad bought brand new.....factory ordered on the night Kennedy was assasinated....

Needless to say.....I've focused on EVERY 64 Pontiac I've seen......Canadian ESPECIALLY....and those style wheels were NOT part of ANY car (in Canada) I ever laid eyes on .....until they became a "chinese reproduction" in recent years.....

Period "correct" aftermarket wheels for this wagon would be 14 x6 Chrome Reverse with baby moons....bought from Sears mail order catalog......OR auto center...

Guys that bought wagons back then were "family guys"....that DIDN't spend ALOT of $$$ on their cars...

I too spend my teen years on a Strato Chief Safari (283, PG). Personnaly. I don't like overseize wheels but they ''look like'' spinner whellcovers of that aera.

To me, seeing almost all the exhaust system is WORST than the look of the wheels!!!

I should have said HOT ROD period. I still love the wheels, they remind me of '60s kidneys.

From the article he had to put bigger non stock wheels to fit the performance rotors.

I read the whole article AFTER I posted.....smile

What a WASTE of time and $$$....4 wheel disc brakes with a 283 2bbl......AND an overdrive automatic that drops his engine OUT of the RPM range that gives maximum fuel economy.....????

OH well....not MY car.......but some 14" wheels would really smarten up the "stance"....those big wheels just look clunky on 60's and 70's cars....

cool story...

I totally agree....and didn't want to come across as "trashing" it......BUT.....it REALLY irritates me that some younger guy that really knows NOTHING about older cars prolly told him that he really NEEDED all that useless aftermarket CRAP....that was bought and installed....when it wasn't needed.....but SOMEBODY made some big  $$$.....selling it to him and charging for installation.....throwing away the stock parts....which were likely still serviceable..........and devaluing  a semi-rare 64 Laurentian wagon in the process....

4-wheel disc brakes.....on a 2 ton wagon with a 283 2bbl.........?    Right!

 OK,now I feel better.......biggrin

Not sure what year your BB2ton is or WHAT it is.....but the front linings/drums have a HUGE swept area on ANY 60's F/size Can. Pontiac.....and if you have GOOD linings and your booster has been replaced...or functioning correctly....the braking performance is TOTALLY adequate....unless you are road racing.....
