VERY PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE ACADIAN WAS SOLD AT AUTO FEST ON SUNDAY.   BUYER IS A LOCAL CANADIAN AND THE CAR WILL REMAIN IN ONTARIO.  NOT SURE OF HIS PLANS AS HE CURRENTLY OWNS A 37 FORD STREET ROD.

 

 

Not what I expected to do but life goes on for us Old Car Guys with a varied taste in vehicles.  I would like to sell my 62 Acadian Beaumont Wagon in order to fund current projects through the winter.  This car is known by many members as it was owned by someone known to the CP community prior to my ownership.  What you don't know is I'm just finishing up a $5000 upgrade on the car.  The tailgate had been patched prior to my ownership and some rust holes existed on the interior of the tailgate.  I purchased a solid used gate from the western US and had it blasted.  Then we welded a couple of repairs in and painted the gate and right rear quarter panel in matching white paint.  On my way home from Florida this past spring, I stopped at Chevy2Only in Kentucky and spent $500 on new parts to rebuild the entire inside of the tailgate.  All of these parts were installed in the freshly painted tailgate and it was reinstalled on the car with new weatherstriping.  We installed new air shocks on the rear to replace the original ones installed by the original owners years ago.  New front parking light extensions were installed and new softseal weatherstrips were installed on the front doors.  Last year I rebuilt the carb and distributor, adjusted carb, timing and choke.

I purchased a CPP, tubular control arm and front end kit.  I have new balljoints also and the car is in the shop currently to have all these front end suspension parts installed and receive a front end alignment.  Anyone who has ever driven one of these cars with the stock front end parts knows that even with all new OEM parts and an alignment they still leave something to be desired on the highway.  This kit replaces the torque bars and with new balljoints and control arms provides a steady, straight ride.  I installed this kit on my 63 Acadian SD and drove it 7000 miles on the Hot Rod Power Tour.

For those of you not familiar with the car, here are the exceptional features you don't normally find on a 1962 Acadian today.  This car has a completely original interior from front to back in very good condition.  The car is has factory original power steering and power brakes with an updated bake booster.  The 62 interior was not duplicated in 63 so this interior is one year only and no reproductions are available.  The power steering consists of a power or hydraulic cylinder on the steering linkage and is not easily duplicated.

Last month I drove the car over 300 miles to the show in Flint, Mi with no problems what so ever.  No over heating or tire/wheel issues.  I think these cars had an option of 14" steel wheels as opposed to the stock 13" 4 lugs now on the car.  It made sense to run them if the wagon was being used to pull a trailer or haul heavy loads.  I have a set of the original 4 lug 14" wheels that could be used to convert the car to 14" tires if someone so desired.

Bottom line, the car has not been advertised anywhere because it is still in the shop for the front end.  I do plan to have the car at Oshawa next month for the Auto Fest in the park.  My last Acadian ended up in SK so I'm offering all Canadians the opportunity to bring this car back to Canada.  I will sell the car for $15000 cdn funds which is only about $11,500 us.  I do think this is a very fair price for the car as I have about 15k US funds invested.  When this car comes out of the shop it will only need a new radio to be complete.  I believe it should have an Acadian radio and it doesn't.  The US Chevy AM radio in the car doesn't work.  I have a truck and trailer and transported cars previously so delivery is an option at cost.  Please PM or email me at forespeed46@yahoo.com

I'd rather see something different like a split manifold and dual carbs on the 6 instead of a SBC. That with some glasspacks are an easy fix if someone wants to go back to stock. I love the sound of a 6 with glasspacks.

No, not really.  I have a set of 14" steel wheels that you could put bigger treads on for the added weight.  The main reason to convert to 5 lugs is bigger brakes.  The 5 lugs allow you to install disc brakes.  The smaller 4 lug wheels are so narrow that there isn't room for a rotor and caliper.  I never considered changing out the 4 lug 13" wheels because I like the stock hubcaps. 

I have lots of parts that could go with the car if someone wanted to switch out the 6cyl.  Remember now the car currently has a much larger 250ci 6cyl, so upgrading to 327ci is not as big a jump as going from 194ci to 327ci.  The PG is the original and I have the original 194ci complete but needing a rebuild.

I have a V-8 oil pan, dip stick and I think an oil pump.  I have coil springs from a V-8 and shocks.  That is just what I can think of off the top of my head.  Need to look through the storage.

Would it sell quicker with the 327? Yes, I would bet money on it.

Do I think you should do it? No, I'd love to see it preserved and I'm not even a 6 cylinder kind of guy but that car is too nice and too rare to chop up.

As stated, when you own the car, you do what you want to do most.

I sold a 67 Nova SS Arizona car, absolutely rust free original 327, powerglide, tint glass, factory air matching numbers car needing paint, interior and the engine rebuilt, knowing full well he's going to put an aftermarket front clip and a 427 5 speed into it. Sad, but he gave me every penny I was asking for it, and it was not cheap. If you're like me, you can't afford to hang on to cars just because you don't like what going to be done to them.

I was able to put disk brakes under my 14" rims.
best reason to go to 5 lug would be if you kept rear drums the 4 bolt are impossible to find only 62-63
but 5 bolt was available for many years..

My 14" rims were the factory add ons that were supplied with the SD model
which i was not aware of at first so in installed 13" ones and turfed the 14's
that god i kept the hubcaps. I took me 5 years to collect a set of 14" rims.

I just got back from Indianapolis, IN last night and need to hook up the trailer this morning to help a friend move a project 70 Nova BB SS he purchased last week.

I will be at the Gasser shop tomorrow to check on the wagon's progress while I was out of town.  I know they installed the CPP mini subframe kit last week.  In addition to the tubular control arms they installed new upper and lower ball joints.  For now, we will retain the front drum brakes and keep the original 13" wheels for the trip to Auto Fest in Oshawa next weekend. 

I will take the wagon to Oshawa in my trailer and have the title on hand just in case someone is interested in buying the car while in Canada.  I will take the 14" wheels over to the shop and have them painted so that I can mount up some new tires and put them on the car for the next show, Frankenmuth, MI in Sept.

So far the only place I have listed the car for sale is here on CP.  I will list it on eBay and other sites after the Frankenmuth show.

I have decided if it is still mine in Oct. we will look at installing my 327 with a 350 turbo.  I will then take the car to Florida and have Classic A/C installed down there in Dec.  I have had success in selling a few cars in Florida during Jan.-Apr.

I have to say that I saw Norm in action at AutoFest and he is one top salesman with a lot of stamina and staying in power. I saw him talking up and selling this car to one couple for over an hour ! I came back three times to say hello but once the hook was set there was no letting go. Congratulations Norm.
