Seat belts in 1961s

I was wondering if anyone could tell me of seatbelts were factory installed in 1961 pontiacs . My 61' strato-chief has none and I don't see any floor mounts for them but the carpet has been redone and they may be covered over or removed if anyone could tell me that would be great thanks.

check your floor pan under the car, my '61 Impala had brackets on the underside for front belts

safety belts were required/mandated  for cars starting january '64

The mounts in my 62 were bolts that threaded into the floor, there were only 2 belts for the front, so you'll see where they come through on the bottom in the footwell. In the back seat, there are dimples in the sheet metal where the bolts would go through, you have to drill holes and use large washers under the floor, again only set up for seatbelts for 2 passengers. The Chevy vendors have a kit for the install.

My understanding is that some vehicles were equipped from the factory with seat belt as early as 1964. I  don't believe they were standard till 1968 along with head rests. However you were not required to wear them until 1976. I owned a 1964 Impala SS , Canadian car and it had seat belts. I also owned a 1964 Impala SS convertible, a US car that had no seat belts ?

My car has factory date-coded front belts - '64 Parisienne.
