1968 Delux Restomodish

Hey all I posted in the chassis tech forum here a bit ago. With a question. I should have posted here first. . .

Got some plans for the old girl this fall/winter. This whole deal starter with just doing body mounts to make it to the last cars show I usually attend for the season.  So I started at it and found a body mount that rotted though down by the firewall. So I decided I wasn't going to go to the last show and lift it off the frame.

Time for it to get some updates I thought

-body mounts

-suspension bushings

-transmission (take the glide out and install a th400)

-power breaks

-disc break conversion

-clean the frame up and paint it

-take the racing stripes off going with the proper dimensions

I'll post pics as I go along.  Feel free to ask questions/give opinions. Tell me I'm doing something dumb I'm open to it all.

Just a quick one on safety.

Switch the orientation of the cinder blocks you have beneath the body.  They don't have any strength when on their sides, and are known to crumble.

To tell you the god honest truth, I wouldn't use them the right side up either I prefer wooden blocks, they don't crumble.

True and i thank you for that point.

I had them on the opposite side but these were only 4" wide and it was super unstable. I have 3 kids and I don't think they will go up to the garage bUT this was safer at the moment. It will be hopefully sitting on cribbing this weekend.

I got the frame a pressure washed and cleaned up last night. Gonna pull the motor tomorrow hopefully and start stripping the rest over the next little bit.

Here are a couple more shots of the soft spot

It'd be great if someone could make his photo's right side up.

What area are we looking at for the soft spot?  The drivers side just ahead of the rear wheel?

I'd say so, judging by the last picture.

Hers one upright.

sorry for the size.  as you can see its the Left side rear its just before the rear wheel. Im thinking ill have to cut this section out and have it replaced. I think ill sandblast the complete frame to find all other spots to fix them as im already this far.

I would be inclined to repair the frame if this were the only soft spot.

Here are the frame dimensions for a 70 GTO and a 70 Chevelle.

I suspect that these would be identical to the 68 frame.

Brace what is square and true. Makes templates of what is being replaced. Cut offending frame away weld in new and fish plate from the inside. Grind, blast and paint.

Instead of the TH400 why not a 700R4? With the overdrive and a steeper first gear.
