Documented big block Parisienne 2 plus 2's...396 427 454

I think these are pretty RARE cars...prolly less than 5% of the model runs...for 2 plus 2 HT and Convert.

SO...if you have a factory assembled one....and are proud of it.....tell us about it...and post some pics....

I can offer some limited information on 1970 cars.

Convertibles - I think there were 5 - 454 2+2's.

1.  Red w sandalwood interior, 345 hp LS4.   Was owned by Larry Kosek in Kansas for quite a while, he bought it in Wetaskiwin AB.  Was originally a special order "Carousel Red" paint, but was later painted red.  Very late build date, and very well equipped.   Original block was there, but had a crack.  Larry put a different 454 in it, and the original block went with the car when he sold it.   I understand car now in Iowa, painted black with LS6 454 under the hood.

2.  White w sandalwood interior.  Was also owned by Larry Kosek in Kansas, he bought it in Listowel ON, and he commonly refers to it as the "rust bucket".  Larry didn't do anything with the car, and sold it and some other cars to the Chicago area.  I don't have any info on the engine, re what hp rating or whether it was with the car.

3.  Red w red interior, I believe 345 hp LS4.  Saw the car about 15 years ago in Penticton BC, family has had the car since the early 70's.

4.  White w green interior, 345 hp LS4 at a junk yard at Gibbons AB.  Original block was there until it followed me home one day.  Very early build date.

5.  Blue one that someone posted photo's of from the Montreal area.  If someone could find that thread I'd like to see it again.

Hardtops - word on the street was that there were 40 - 454 2+2's.

1.  Silver w black cloth interior, 345 hp LS4.  John Preikschat by Regina has had this car for many years, needs restoration.  Very well equipped car with Automatic Air Conditioning.

2.  Yellow w sandalwood interior, 345 hp LS4.  Car came from BC, is now in New Jersey.

3.  Red w black cloth interior, 345 hp LS4.  Car in Calgary, needs restoration.

Off topic a bit, but StriperSS posted some photo's a number of years ago of a 70 454 RCMP car.  By lack of body side mouldings, I presume it was a Strato-Chief.   There were probably a bunch of these.

I think the Bandit would have lost him in the corners though!

One of my cousins was married to an RCMP who was stationed at various small towns in Saskatchewan from the late 60's to the early 90's.  I showed him those photo's, and he said he had one of those 70 454 RCMP cars back in the day.

If the TRUTH.....needs to be known....as I understand it.....TWO...of the 6 Trans ams they used and wrecked....filming the movie.....were fitted with built up BBC's...

They need the extra power for several scenes....including the jump scene......and could not find anybody at the time that was building reliable big HP Pontiac motors...( That's all changed now...)   biggrin

and the stock 180 hp 400 with 2:56 gears.....just did NOT make for aggressive bottom end acceleration...

Nope, it would have been great in corners but not so great on the straights.

That's where those 70's Trans ams really did well......even with the crappy tires they had back then.....they still went around corners....like they were on rails...

I recall hearing they outdid the Corvettes of that era. Not sure if that was true or not though.

That's the GOSPEL.....

Road test magazine did a 3 car comparison in 78.....Trans am,Z28 and Corvette.....all three were sticks...with the best motor offered...and NO AC.

The consensus was...the T/A was the easiest to drive the fastest....and the most fun....and the Corvette kept falling off the track..(Willow Springs)

The Z28 wasn't really even close.

There....I've corrupted my own thread....

Did the RCMP ever use 69s? I've never seen one, but my parents (in 1970) drove a used one that had been a police car somewhere...

I remember seeing a 69 Strato Chief back then that had a 427. All black with a flip up dash mounted light. RCMP Highway Patrol. Saw it in east Vancouver. Sounded pretty good too!

My dad purchased a used Ex RCMP 1970 Pontiac strato chief 454 Ls4 in New Brunswick in the early 70's. Sadly the car ended up at a wrecker somewhere near Parry Sound. It was a black unmarked car and I drove it while in high school. I found the RCMP maintenance log while cleaning out stuff at my dad's place a couple of weeks ago. Must have some pictures around to post. Wish we had kept this car along with the 2+2 but the body was pretty bad when we sold in the late 70's. It had a 2.73 rear end so not so quick off the line but top end was strong. RCMP had put on chrome exhaust tips from CT tire while in service. it had hot starting issues and had a tendency to overheat at times but sure was a great car otherwise.
