1966 B body order form from GM with options and prices


I am so glad someone on this forum gave me these pages years ago. I have used them as reference many times. If you have an interest in 66's and want to see what it would cost to order one the way you would like it, or want to see what was available, what wasn't etc, these pages are for you.

Isn't that great? I hope whoever sent it to me will speak up and remind me who it is that has put a smile on my face every time I "build" a new 66 Pontiac! I've never built an L72 Strato Chief wagon yet though. How cool would that be?

Oh, and the way the form reads, I could have an L72 Strato Chief wagon with a 3 speed manual too! That would be one of one...

Carl,  I have a couple questions now that I own a 66 Chevy Biscayne.  My 2 dr post is the least expensive model sold.  It has what appears to be an origianl style interior but with carpet on the floor.  I was surprised because I assumed the floor would be black rubber mat.  I had not been able to verify that until I saw these docs for the 66 strato chief.  It would appear from these pages, my Biscayne probably did have a black rubber mat on the floor.  I have contacted a number of parts suppliers in the U.S. and no one has the rubber mat available.  Does your car have rubber on the floor or carpet.  I under stand someone buying the repro carpet over the years and installing it in the car.  That carpet fits all Chevy full size in 66 and sells cheap.  

My car has aftermarket wheels so I wasn't sure about the tire and wheel sizes.  I find it interesting the station wagon, normally considered the heavy duty model came with 14" wheels.  I'm thinking of using my Biscayne to tow some and I have located a set of original 15x6 wheels that I think I will buy and put big rubber on for use towing.  The missing link in terms of towing for me would be a 12 bolt rearend.  With the PG trans in my car, I'm sure the rear is a 2 series and I plan to use a turbo 400 w/cooler to tow, so I need that 12 bolt with a high 3 series gear.

Have you upgraded any of the drivetrain in your 66?  Ever seen a replacement rubber mat for the 66?

Carl it was me.  When I had my 66 I remembered that way back in 1966 when I was in Fleet Leasing the GM rep gave me a 1966 fleet book on all the vehicles.  I kept it all that time so dug it out and sent you the info.  Bob Crocker.

I have the 1963 version of the same type sheets that Hawkeye posted. My dad bought a new 63 Parisienne ragtop and I remember seeing them a few years ago, unfortunately I have dozens of boxes of old family papers to clean up, when I find them I'll post them.

Norm, I don't know my Chevies too well but I think Biscayne had rubber floor with carpet optional. From what I can find, all Strato Chiefs had carpet, no rubber floor option. Mine is a very basic car, looks like probably radio, block heater and F40 for options but it does have carpet. I have never seen a repro mat for the Biscayne.

14" wheels is correct, that's all there is. Wagons came with bigger rims and tires, still 14" though. A mandatory option for big block cars was bigger rubber.

As far as the 12 bolt goes, my car has one. It's quite common to see them on 283 Pontiacs in 66 for some reason, and there were even some 12 bolt 6 cylinder cars in 65, maybe 66 as well. If you are changing your's to a 12 bolt, are you aware of the 2 choices of housing, either one or two upper control arms? I am betting your ratio now will be 3.08, and a slight chance it's 3.36. I am quite sure there is no 2 series 10 bolt gear set in 66.

The eventual plan for my car is a stock 4 speed conversion, keeping it looking original, and most likely a 390hp 427 conversion, again, keeping it looking original.

 Hey Norm, the Biscayne came standard with rubber flooring only through 1963. For 1964 carpet was made standard, plus they even had rear armrests with ashtrays. Rubber flooring was only for B02 Taxi & B07 Police options.

All of the above applies to the Strato Chief.

 

1966 wheel sizes were basically 14x5 standard, 14x6 standard on wagons, 14x6 optional as RPO P12 or possibly included with any 427 (8.25-14 tires base). 15s were kind of unusual and might have been the skinny 15x5 taxi specials with 8.15-15 tires, I can't say for certain. Probably somebody over at http://impalass427.com/ could shed some light on the Chevy side of the 15" wheel usage.

I don't think there was a 15" wheel on a Canadian Pontiac or Chevrolet B body until 67 when they needed them for disc brakes.
